Bong Joon-Ho

Snowpiercer

After numerous delays and the threat of a Weinstein-supervised trim to appease fly-over state audiences in America, Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer is finally primed to be released into American theaters in its original cut. To hype the film up (and ride on the coattails of star Chris Evans’ recent mega-hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier), The Weinsteins have smartly released a new red-band trailer, highlighting some of the picture’s nastier moments.

By far, Snowpiercer is one of the more original movies coming our way this year – hopefully – which is why it’s a downright shame The Weinstein Company and director Bong Joon-ho can’t resolve their differences over the U.S. release. This is especially aggravating when you consider the film released in Bong’s home country, South Korea last fall and to plenty of other, non-English speaking countries after that. And even more so when we’re continuously teased with sweet trailers like this one, (more…)

Filled with a multi-talented, multi-national cast of performers Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer has been making a name for itself overseas and is set to open next month in South Korea. Featuring an all-star cast including Chris Evans, John Hurt, Song Kang-ho, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris it’s odd there is no set release date yet in North America. Though, thi hasn’t stopped the stream of featurettes and a new trailer from making their way online.

A thought-provoking film of class-warfare and survival, each featurette gives you an inside look at the characters and several behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew. Also included is a short animated feature, giving viewers a little more insight and builds on what people already know about Snowpiercer. And while the film itself was a mostly English language cast these, features and trailers were made for the foreign market, but you will be able to piece together some parts fairly quickly.

Check out these featurettes, trailers, and behind the scenes shots after the jump below.

Breaking away from the superhero and science fiction franchise films we all flock to in the summer, is Snowpiercer. The first English language film from director Bong Joon-Ho (The Host, Memories of Murder, Mother) sees all life on the planet wiped out after a failed attempt at thwarting global warming brings a new Ice Age. All life except those on the train, Snowpiercer, that is. Within train life an oppressive class system arises, and eventually, the lower classes begin a revolution.

I’m hooked by its premise alone, but its great cast doesn’t hurt either. Snowpiercer stars Chris Evans along with John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, Ed Harris, Ewen Bremner, Octavia Spencer, Kang-ho Song and Ko Asung. Set to release in South Korea in August there’s no U.S. release date, but at least we can check out this first trailer,

Looking for something a little more original at the box office, check out Snowpiercer. I’m sure it’ll have a U.S. release date before long. What do you think? Interested?
