C3PO

The one constant throughout the Star Wars films has been everyone’s favorite droid duo C-3PO, and R-2D2. Although the two spent most of The Force Awakens on the sidelines in favor of newcomer B-88, they still are very much a part of the heart and soul of Star Wars. They have gone on adventures with both Anakin Skywalker and his son Luke throughout both trilogies. When the promotional material for The Force Awakens first began to surface, there was a slight change in our favorite protocol droid’s appearance. No longer did he have his gold plating throughout his body. For some unexplained reason, C3PO was seen sporting a red arm on his left arm. Even though it was clear that he had a red arm, in typical C-3PO fashion, he spent some time to irksomely explain that he had a brand new red arm that everyone had to notice. While this was an interesting aesthetic, it was not explained at all during the film, it was just something that “happened” and now we’ll just have to get used to it. This left some fans to ponder: Why is his arm red? What happened? In typical JJ Abrams fashion, we didn’t get an answer… until now.

It’s hard to believe that in just a bit over six months, audiences will finally get the first of several Star Wars sequels that they have been waiting over 30 years to see.  When Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec 18, fans of the iconic science fiction series will be reunited with fan favorites Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, as well as everyone’s favorite droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO.  Considering that decades will have passed in the story since we last saw the heroes of a galaxy far, far away, fans can expect to see older versions of characters that they grew up loving but how about the characters that don’t age, i.e. Threepio and Artoo? Well, it appears that we know how at least one of those two has changed since we last saw him on the forest moon of Endor. (more…)

Who is the one actor you couldn’t imagine Episode VII happening without? Mark Hamill? Harrison Ford? Carrie Fisher? Nope! There’s already been three movies without ’em, and even though you may have a low opinion of those films, they were successful. That trio isn’t what’s needed to make a Star Wars movie. What’s needed is one gold-plated, prim and proper protocol droid: Anthony Daniels(more…)

Are there two characters more indicative of the Star Wars saga it’s C-3PO and R2-D2? You may disagree, but they’re the first two main characters you meet in A New Hope, and you spend most of the first 20 minutes of the movie with them, seeing this galaxy, and this story, through their eyes. Plus they’re the only two characters who have appeared in every movie of the series thus far.

So what of it? Could C-3PO and R2-D2 make an appearance in J.J. AbramsStar Wars Episode VII? The man to ask is Anthony Daniels, who portrayed Threepio in all six Star Wars movies, and Digital Spy recently did. Here’s Daniels’ response:

“Look, it’s all very early days and I don’t want to wear anybody out by speculating or letting you waste your energy by saying ‘What do you think? I’m certainly not sitting by the phone, but it’s always nice when it rings. Do you know what I mean? It never occurred to me that it would happen. Everybody’s really happy that Disney have taken over the mantle. Kathy Kennedy is so well loved and she is carrying George Lucas’s torch so much further.”

Well that’s not a no. I remember once hearing a rumor that at the end of Episode IX it would be revealed that the whole saga was told through R2 and Threepio’s memory banks, although that’s probably pretty unlikely now. Still, considering that Daniels has been involved all prior Wars films, as well as giving voice to Threepio on the cartoon Droids, the Star Wars radio plays, and in numerous video games and other media, if the interpreter droid does appear in Episode VII, it will be hard to keep Daniels away.

Star Wars and Comic-Con. They’ve been together since 1974 and are one of the longest and strongest relationships in the whole geek world. Could you imagine a Comic-Con without legions of Stormtroopers and Slave Leias? Unthinkable!

This year they brought out some real goodies Star Wars nerds are going to lose themselves over. First, in celebration of the entire Star Wars saga coming to Bluray we were treated to a sneak peak at those promised deleted scenes. This sizzle reel of clips shows off never before seen footage from the original trilogies, like Luke with his new lightsaber and R2-D2 running like hell from a Wampa. Or rolling, he can’t really run.

Excited? It’s new Star Wars that wasn’t a hack job to score more money from fans! Or, wait, these probably are included to give us more reason to throw away money on movies we already own five times over. But, whatever, whoo! Star Wars on Bluray come September!

For the other big Star Wars announcement today, you’ve heard of Kinect Star Wars, right? The new Kinect game releasing this holiday season which will allow you to be a Jedi. Well, as close to a Jedi as Microsoft and LucasArts can manage, which from what I’ve seen looks pretty damn good. With the Kinect you’ll be able to wield a lightsaber, control the force, pilot a pod racer and possibly even murder younglings but I haven’t been able to confirm that yet.

In another totally awesome way to smuggle more money from us they’ve released a Kinect Star Wars bundle with what may the coolest skin for an Xbox 360…ever! It’s an Xbox designed to look and sound like Artoo with a golden controller channeling Threepio’s shiny ass! Just look at it! It’s soooo beautiful. It’s only going to set you back about $500, but for this much beautiful awesomeness, that’s chump change. Here are the specs,

-Kinect Star Wars game
– Custom R2-D2-themed Xbox 360 Console with custom sounds
– White Kinect Sensor
– Custom C-3PO-themed Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
– 320 GB Hard Drive
– Xbox 360 Wired Headset
– Kinect Adventures game
– Exclusive downloadable content

Take a look through the gallery for more images of the fabulous console. Has Comic-Con delivered on some great Star Wars stuff, or what?!

While making Paul, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost decided to re-shoot the entire Star Wars movie scene for scene . . . they only got this far.

“You were built by Darth bloody Vadar!”
Anyone else want to see the rest? I’d  buy a movie ticket to see more of these two doing star Wars scenes. Now I bet if someone out there started a web page campaign to get Simon and Nick to redo Star Wars, we could get further than the Browncoats did with getting Firefly back on TV . . . what do you think?
Who’s gonna get this ball rolling? I would . . . but I have to walk the dog . . . and take out the trash . . . and there’s that book I have been meaning to write . . .
