I know that as nerds we obsess over the fine details of everything. We like quantify and categorize and structuring our little realms and apply real world dynamics and logistics to them. How much would is cost to be Batman? How much would it cost to be Iron Man? How much would all the property damage committed by the Chitauri in The Avengers cost? But really, what are the odds that any of that stuff could happen? Having a little boy though that is as destructive as an F1 tornado? Now that’s something believable we can get our calculators out for! A recent journal article aimed to quantify one of the key nerd queries of our time: Just how much damage did Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes cause during his 10 years of carnage on the comics page? It’s been nearly 20 years since the last time a new adventure of Calvin and Hobbes graced the comic strip pages of your local newspaper, and for fans around the world that love hasn’t diminished in the slightest over the past two decades. The enduring love for the strip endures despite creator Bill Watterson‘s refusal to monetize the strip or its characters, and indeed many more people admire Watterson for taking an artist stance rather than deride him for their  inability to own their own official Hobbes plush tiger. Now, in a new and rare interview with Watterson, it appears that the creator continues to stand firm on his instance that Calvin and Hobbes belong solely on the printed page. (more…)

Calvin and Hobbes Fight Club

Calvin and Hobbes Fightclub

What is the first rule of Fight Club? YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!

Fight Club was a movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton back in the 90’s, and was extremely popular. Over the years, many people have compared to main characters of David Fincher‘s movie to the characters in the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes.

YouTube user Gorilla Mask decided to take this a step further, and create a mash-up trailer using the audio from the Fight Club trailer with the art of the amazing comic strip.

Check out the very impressive mash-up video below.

Calvin and Hobbes is a series well loved by many former children, now reading the aforementioned series to their children. Thanks to those at DC comics the beloved tales of a child and his tiger have been reborn. It’s just not how you remember it this time around. Those buying Superman/Batman #75 get a special bonus comic in the form of Joker and Lex.

That’s right, with a now young( but still bald) Lex and Joker. Perfected into Bill Watterson’s iconic design, the tale of Lex once again getting defeated takes on an adorable twist for the ladies. This is a series that needs to be spun off and printed immediately.
