♫ Papa can you hear me? ♫

Frakin-A. It looks like the excruciatingly long delayed Battlestar Galactica spin-off Blood and Chrome will be a web-series after all. Are you WTFing with the word-maker that is placed on your faceplace? Fashizzle, fashizzle, according to the corporate overseers at NBC Universal Sheinhardt Wig Kabletown Spaceley Sprockets that trailer (now removed from the YouTube) that we showed you earlier in the week from Wonder Con (which sounds magical) was “not officially sanctioned” according to EW and the “plan is still to go web-based”.

Here’s the full quote from Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern, aka the man who likes to merge Lobsters and house cats and make films about them:

“Though the vision for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned.  We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen.”

Now, this is disappointing to fans of BSG and also the slow burning yet brilliant prequel series Caprica, fans who want to tune in to see Cylons and this portrayal of the first Cylon war, people like, well, me. But on the bright side, maybe this won’t suck. Stern says that the 2 hour pilot will eventually air on TV and perhaps they’re envisioning digital content that is not small scale or short lived. These things that I just wrote are not likely, but I thought I’d end on a high note despite the fact that, “And it was never heard from again…” feels like a more appropriate ending.

What’s up bastards! Here we are with another installment of NerdBastards’ weekly DVD Tuesday feature. We list what came out today and recommend if it’s either a BUY, RENT, or PASS. We got couple of release that may interest you (well, one really).

We only got one release for the Old is New Again section as it was another film that was released on HD-DVD first. We do have quite the releases under the TV Show DVD in which the header image shows two of the four releases. Today, I’m also introducing the It Went Straight To DVD, in which I’ll list a few films that are straight to DVD (and some times Blu-Ray) flicks that may interest you as today’s film that is feature for this is also directing The Asylum’s upcoming Almighty Thor flick.

So what are you waiting for? Check what came out after the jump and see if there is something you want!

‘Caprica’ Is Frakkin Cancelled!

(Post by nerdbastards contributor Nick Bungay- Twitter @NickBungay)

Looks like the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ spin-off has recieved it’s pink slip after only running for half a season. The series Caprica, set 58 years before it’s big brother ‘Battlestar Galactica’, it focused on the Adama and Graystone families after an attack killed family members on both sides. Showing the creation of the first ‘Cylon’ and a young Joseph Adama’s life before the destruction of the twelve colonies. This could have lasted at least 3 more seasons if fans had their way, but this isn’t the case.

Here’s what Syfy Senior Vice President Craig Engler had to say on twitter about ‘Caprica’:

“Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”

“The remaining first run episodes of Caprica will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2”

“The final 5 eps will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, & will conclude the run of the series”

“Thanks again to all the awesome fans who watched and supported the show, and to the AMAZING cast and crew.”

Wow, not even a season aired and it gets canned for possibly another spin-off, a BSG prequel that will follow a young Adama in the first Cylon war. Way to kick a show, that had great direction by the way, and toss it in the trash. Syfy, your mother must be proud.

What’s up bastards! Here we are with the first Tuesday for the month of October and it seems business is picking up as we got five movies that we either recommend as a BUY, RENT, or a PASS. Two of the movies are reboots in which one may be worth watching and the other can just burn for its existence (you’ll see what I did there). We also have another movie that may be worth your time, one that is just there, and another that has the concept of ass to mouth.

That’s not it folks as we have what may be the most STACKED list of Old Movies Are New. How stacked you ask? Well it’s a list of 31 releases and I’m sure there is something you wouldn’t mind upgrading the hi-def version of. We also got the TV Show DVD section that consist not only two Syfy shows but a Doctor Who animated feature. So what are you waiting for? Check what came out after the jump and see if there is something you want!

So we all know that ‘Battlestar Galactica‘ is SyFy channels strongest property. Heck, the initial series was simply the best thing the channel has ever done. A truly amazing show but as with all good things it came to an end (a really debatable end but we wont go there). SyFy obviously wanted to continue the popular franchise. So that’s how we wound up with Battlestar prequel ‘Caprica‘, a spin-off series set 50 years prior to the events of that show. It’s an intriguing show that explores the rich universe of Battlestar. However, the downer, final act of Battlestar renders the storyline of Caprica moot. What happened some 50 odd years before Battlestar began doesn’t really matter anymore. We know what the end result is going to be. Regardless, its flashes of brilliance makes it worth a watch. Anyway, what else in this universe would be rich enough to carry on a whole separate show? Well, that’s an idea SyFy is toying around with. According to THR there are early talks that the developmental team behind Battlestar aims to take the title back to it’s space opera roots with another spinoff show. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of details on this project being that they really are in the early talk stages. Regardless, the thought of yet another spin off is puzzling. For cripes sake, have these guys ever heard of the phrase “Stop While Your Ahead”. Seriously, the shows excellence in humanities strengths, weaknesses, potential, and flaws would be over saturated.  Personally, I’m a little intrigued but think there isn’t a story worth telling that could fill up a whole season or more with. I could see several mini, stand alone, movies, much like Battelstar: The Plan and Razor but not another spinoff.

Tell us what you think? Are you for another spinoff or do you think they should leave well enough alone?

First Battlestar, Now Caprica

I loved Battlestar…and now I’m hoping that Caprica, the prequel spin-off, will be just as great. Just watching the first five minutes made my stomach turn with thoughts of how horrible it was going to be. It looked like the beginning of some Americanized family soap opera, sort of like The Secret Life Of An American Teenager meets Days of Our Lives. And then boom! (literally) I was starting to get curious as to what was going to happen next. Do I think it is going to be as good as BSG…probably not, but I do think it has some major potential. With the series premiere on January 22, 2010, the pilot episode has been released online by SyFy to help promote the show. Check it out after the jump, and let me know what you think.
