The staff at NerdBastards is very much divided on the Michael Bay-directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies. Half of us watched the first film and secretly acknowledged that it at was at least a good way to waste two hours of our time. The other half bayed at the heavens as soon as they caught wind of the new CGI Turtles, cringed as they watched the first teasers roll in and slowly curled themselves into the fetal position all the way up to Act 3. With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of The Shadows recently announced, most of us feared a repeat of the oh-so-gradual lapse in quality that began with Secret Of The Ooze. What we didn’t expect however, was that the movies would be as bold as to introduce one of the TMNT’s cartoon series most iconic villains. (more…)
Michael Bay’s 2014 reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles achieved many things. Earning over $484 million world wide, albeit opening to largely negative reviews, the film generated enough to get green lighted for a sequel (to be directed by Dave Green and arrive in 2016). What the movie also did, intentionally or not, what split the TMNT fanbase in two. One side was fully accepting of the direction Bay was taking with the Turtles, and were happy to follow along for the ride. The other side remained loyal to the vision of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel, Secret of the Ooze. It is of course possible to be on both sides, but it seems that true Turtle fans can’t seem to shake their affinity for the dark, gritty filming style of the originals. Enter Eric England, and his idea for a TMNT film told from the POV of Casey Jones. (more…)
Michael Bay just tweeted the first look at Arrow‘s Stephen Amell in full Casey Jones Mask, armed with his hockey stick. It will be interesting to see Amell on the big screen without his bow and arrows. He brings a solid fan base to the TMNT franchise that while it should have some crossover, will help the movie at the box office. (more…)
It has been announced that Jonathan Liebsman – although sounding enthused about the prospect of future entries in the series in the past – will not be returning to direct the second installment of the recently rebooted franchise Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, Variety has reported that Earth to Echo helmer David Green will now taking over the franchise to direct 2016s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Green is know to most for his family-friendly, found-footage hit film Earth to Echo (…best described as a mix between E.T. and The Goonies), which was filmed on a mere budget of $13 million going on to gross an impressive $45 million worldwide for Relativity Media (that’s a nice return right there!). If you were, or still are a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then you’ll know of their mask wearing, hockey stick carry friend Casey Jones. A Foot kicking (literally and figuratively) , bad-ass, vigilante hero. Casey’s awesome, but he’s always fell to the wayside in favor of shell power. Just once, wouldn’t it be nice for Arnold “Casey” Jones to have his own movie?
Well pray no more, because a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle spin-off short-film dedicated to our goon master has arrived. Starring Hilarion Banks, this 35 minute movie delves into origin of one of the turtles most trusted allies .
Created by Polaris Banks, the film kicks all kinds of ass. Kudos to the way that it’s presented and shot, right down to just how cocky Casey is onscreen. It’s a real treat for any TMNT fan.
