Channing Tatum

You can’t keep a good monster movie franchise down. At least, that’s what the folks at Universal Studios would want us all to believe. Though their new “Dark Universe” didn’t kick off with as much fanfare as they would have hoped with this summer’s release of The Mummy, the studio that brought us all the original monster movies is moving forward with their plans, and they have announced who they are eyeing to take on the role of Van Helsing in an upcoming film.

In the aftermath of X-Men: Days of Future Past, a whole bunch of spin-off films were on the horizon for the X-Men universe. Such films included Deadpool, Logan, New Mutants, X-Force, and other “First Class” sequels. One film that was planned was a solo film featuring everyone’s favorite card-throwing Cajun, Gambit. The planned spin-off would feature Channing Tatum as the title character. The film was planned for a Spring 2017 release. However, out of nowhere, the project’s start date was pushed back and then later taken off the proposed schedule. After that, the film’s director Doug Liman left the project as well. Many started to lose faith that the film would ever get made as it’s still in “Development Hell” territory. Many feared that the film will never get made and probably be shelved.

Everyone’s favorite ragin’ Cajun can’t seem to catch a break. While the ‘Gambit’ movie has the potential to entice fans, production took a big hit when the film’s director, Doug Liman stepped down. By all appearances, the break seems to be mutual, however the movie has already had a troubled start. This marks the second director that has left the project. This comes after a filming schedule has already been decided upon.

Getting into the groove of how 2016 has not only become popular for its reboots, but also its gender-swapped roles, we have to look at a new film with an open mind. The all female Ghostbusters by Paul Feig became quite a hit at the box office, although people went in with the worst intentions, but it looks like the pattern is falling into place again, because Ron Howard has decided to come back and produce a remake of his 1980’s hit, Splash. As if that’s not exciting enough, Channing Tatum will be a part of the cast and he will be playing the mermaid! From Magic Mike, to merman? Sounds like this may be a really interesting concept. Let’s be blunt about the matter, Gambit the Movie has had a rough go of it. Originally intended to be the third point of an X-Men spear this year that included Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse, it couldn’t even hold on to a director. And if the director drama weren’t enough, 20th Century Fox started to play musical chairs with release dates before shifting it off the calendar entirely. The one constant in this whole thing has been Channing Tatum in the title role, but now there’s doubt that even he’s still invested in the mutant Ragin’ Cajun. Some shrewd social media watchers have noted some unusual moves last week that are highly suggestive. (more…)

Kingsman Bridges feature

Dude! Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges took to social media this past weekend to officially announce his next project. Bridges confirmed on his Twitter page that he has signed on to join the cast of ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle.’ Not only is he adding star power and talent to an already stellar cast, but he is reuniting with Julianne Moore, his co-star in ‘Seventh Son‘ and ‘The Big Lebowski.’ (more…)

‘Gambit’ Finally Set to Begin Filming

It appears as though fans of the X-Men character Gambit can finally have some solid expectations for a Gambit solo film. Again. Gambit is one of the more interesting members of the X-Men and many a fan favorite, with his Cajun heritage and past as a thief. After the success of the first X-Men movie in 2000 (which helped to usher in the modern age of superhero movies) many fans have been waiting for a great live action version of Remy LeBeau. Sixteen years, one terrible version, and coming up on nine movies later, fans are still waiting. After many stalled starts and cast and crew uncertainty, the movie is finally set to start filming with star Channing Tatum.

The Gambit troubles continue unabated. Yes, 20th Century Fox seems dedicated to making a movie about the X-Men‘s Ragin’ Cajun, they have a very well-known and photogenic actor lined up to play the part in the form of Channing Tatum, and they even have a release date set for the movie almost one year from today. So why, oh why doesn’t anyone seem to want to direct Gambit? Well, perhaps those woes are wearing off. A front-runner has emerged in the Gambit directorial sweepstakes, and it’s a name not unfamiliar to those that enjoy fine genre entertainment, Doug Liman. Is Fox going to rely on the guy that launched The Bourne Identity to launch Gambit? (more…)

The hunt is on for Channing Tatum and 20th Century Fox. After director Rupert Wyatt left the Gambit scene due to creative differences, potential names have been popping up, all to hopefully take over the vacant position. As of a few days ago, the latest rumored candidate was Doug Liman, Edge of Tomorrow director, but it seems that two new names have been added to the wish list since then. Heroic Hollywood reported the details on the latest possibilities. (more…)
