Charlie’s Angels

Pitch Perfect 2 was one of the hits off summer, and though it hardly scored Jurassic World numbers, it has collected almost $184 million domestically since its May release and has a passionate fanbase. Not bad for a first time director. Elizabeth Banks is very well-known for her work as an actress in flicks like The Hunger Games, Role Models, The 40 Year Old Virgin and the recent Love & Mercy, but now she’s making a play to be a well-known director. Her next project, apparently, is a remake of the 1970s TV hit Charlie’s Angels, but the more compelling question is what direction is she going to take the franchise in? (more…)

NBC and Fox have both released their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. The circle is now complete. I’d say they saved the best line-up for last, but I’m not going to ’cause it’s not. Really, in comparison to FOX and NBC, there’s really not a whole lot of new shows in the ABC schedule that interest me. At least from a nerd perspective that is . If I was a typical force feed American, then I might get my jollies off seeing Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. New shows like PanAm (1960’s show to play in the same sandbox of AMC’s Mad Men) and Revenge (show about an avenging ex-yuppy) might have me stroke my chin in curiosity. However, I’m a nerd. Give me something some fantasy, sci-fi, or something supernatural.

Looking over their line-up, the only NEW series that tickles my fancy is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.

From the inventive minds of “Lost” executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis comes a bold new imagining of the world, where fairy tales and the modern-day are about to collide. And they all lived happily ever after – or so everyone was led to believe. Emma Swan knows how to take care of herself. She’s a 28-year-old bail bonds collector who’s been on her own ever since she was abandoned as a baby. But when the son she gave up years ago finds her, everything starts to change. Henry is now 10 years old and in desperate need of Emma’s help. He believes that Emma actually comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming’s missing daughter. According to his book of fairytales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen’s curse, which trapped the fairytale world forever, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. Of course Emma doesn’t believe a word, but when she brings Henry back to Storybrooke, she finds herself drawn to this unusual boy and his strange New England town. Concerned for Henry, she decides to stay for a while, but she soon suspects that Storybrooke is more than it seems.

According to ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee, Once Upon a Time is “completely unlike Lost. But in some ways it’s like Lost … because it’s about a group of people who are trapped.” While the new series will use flashbacks like Lost, those flashbacks will be of the fairytale world the characters come from, he said.

Eh, consider me sold. Once Upon A Time and NBC’s fairytale counterpart, Grimm are two shows on my radar.

Pilot scripts have been ordered by the television networks for the Fall 2011 television schedule and thanks to io9, we can get a good look at them in advance!  Set your Tivos now if you see anything that pops out at ya. Some of these shows are going to be huge losers, but a few of them look to have promise if they can get the right casting and a good enough script.  Those shows are few and far between these days.

Since it seems like every post I write features me bitching about another damned reboot of a series or movie, let’s start with the reboots, shall we?  After the jump, because it’s a LOOONG list.
