Peter Mayhew has been a part of Star Wars from the beginning and a fantastic ambassador at conventions and appearances. He’s just a nice guy all around and while it is sad that his health is in such a state that he really couldn’t physically do what was necessary to continue on in the role of his lifetime Chewbacca. While he did appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo took over the more physical parts of the role. Now the Chewbacca torch has officially passed on to Suotamo in the as yet untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. To mark the occasion Suotamo wrote Peter Mayhew and fans a very nice letter. (more…)

While we’ve all been told to Let the Wookie win, because he’ll rip your arm off, we’ve only had Han Solo’s warning as proof. Now, thanks to some unused footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens we can rest assured that Han Solo’s dire prediction of amputation was quite correct as Unkar Plutt (Simon Peg) finds out that Poking a Wookie needs to be added to the Let the Wookie win list. Just when you thought you knew someone the secrets come out of the closet changing your entire world view. Here’s a bombshell for ya, Chewbacca could speak English, or Galactic, or whatever they called the language of the Star Wars universe, the entire time. Fans often wondered and guessed at what Chewbacca’s howls and grunts really meant, for all we knew he could be cracking jokes, cursing like a Tusken Raider, or giving out Yoda like wisdom. Jamie Benning knew though, and he’s found the footage to prove it. You might recognize the name, he’s done other Star Wars documentaries worth watching. (more…)

One thing about The Force Awakens that Original Trilogy fans wanted more of, was our favorite Wookie Chewbacca. He and Han Solo came back to help Finn and Rey fight the First Order, showing them the ropes in a “passing the torch” fashion. However, most of the grunt work was performed by Han and he’s the leader of the two. Fans weren’t too happy when Leia hugged Rey instead of Chewie either. Rest assured fans, Star Wars has some Chewbacca action that was unfortunately left on the cutting room floor.

This past Monday, Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida recently hosted Candace Payne (The Laughing Chewbacca Mom) on campus for a tour with their mascot Scorch while she was on a family vacation. The college’s President Dr. Kent Ingle surprised her when he presented Candace with full tuition scholarships for her entire family, including her husband and two children.

Candace has inspired us and others with her joy, and we want her and her family to experience some of that same joy through this gift,” Ingle said.

Dr. Ingle had such a blast working with Candace. The university stated that she is just so genuine and an inspiration to millions! You can view Candace’s campus tour below.

Wise beast-man of the star-ways, best co-pilot a galactic smuggler could have, professional wailer, for decades, Peter Mayhew has been the man behind the iconic hairy alien sidekick of Star Wars. Recently reprising his legendary role in The Force Awakens. Mayhew’s recent Twitter teases, however, have caused quite a stir, as he began to upload screen shots of his own original Star Wars script, simply titled Journal Of The Whills. What’s more interesting however, is the unedited original bit of text which reads… (more…)

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Chewbacca gets arrested in the Ukraine. Yes, that’s the same country that recently converted a statue of Lenin into Darth Vader and frequently has someone ruling for office as the Dark Sith Lord. (There were at least 16 in the last parliamentary elections.) Those Ukrainians love their Star Wars. In a twist of Star Wars lore, Chewbacca was detained while on the way to vote for Darth Vader in a local mayoral election when he refused to present proper identification. Then what happened? So far, Marvel has given us a standalone Princess Leia mini series, a Star Wars Rebels tie-in miniseries, and a Darth Vader standalone comic. Who would be the most obvious choice for the leading character in their next Star Wars related comic series? Why, Chewbacca of course! Written by Gerry Duggan and with art by Phil Noto, Chewie’s story will take place on a strange planet, set right after Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. We’ll see him take up with some new allies, and possibly run into some familiar faces? (more…)

Star Wars Celebration Anaheim is now behind us and there are plenty of fanboys and fangirls out there who feel pretty spent after 4 days of absolute bliss.  The greatest convention in the galaxy brought with it plenty of surprises and even a few tears (of joy, of course) and if you were among the tens of thousands in attendance, making the decision to either go to work or stay in bed on Monday morning was probably a tougher decision than whether or not you should have paid that $15 for the food truck Wookie Fries while at the convention.  Nerd Bastards was on hand for some of the more glorious moments of the convention, so we wanted to share a few of those moments with you!
