Now that we are well into December, it’s safe to assume that none of us is really going to miss this dumpster fire of a year. But we have one last chance to bring joy to the world and goodwill unto all mankind this year by pushing aside all the grief and the bad movies and doing our best to make the impending festive holidays 2016’s silver lining. Eat, drink, be merry, fill yourself with delicious food, take some time off work and spend it instead showing your loved ones how much they really mean to you. Exchange songs and kisses and gifts.
If you’ve left it this late to get presents, but still want to get something amazing for you favourite nerd, there’s still plenty of time for you to get your hands on the perfect gift.
ABOVE: Ever have the compulsion to stab someone in the head? Don’t lie, of course you have. Fortunately, the only difference between you and a serial killer is a little thing called a conscious. To safely and without consequence act out your stab happy impulse, consider this Deadpool Knife block. Chef knife, bread knife, paring knife and all other kind of kitchen knives can be shanked in Deadpool’s squash, repeatedly. He’s Deadpool, he can take it. He takes a lickin’ and keeps on ticking, that’s his shtick.
This clever Knifeblock, however, cannot be bought. It’s not an actual product. But below is a link to a free download offering a step-by-step guide on how to craft your very own Deadpool head using a 3D printed bust and a little skill. Don’t have a 3D printer, that’s OK. Just look 3D printing services locally on Google.
There’a new batch of “Holiday” specials every year–every television show that lasted more than one season has a Christmas episode, and celebs and personalities adore putting together hour-long love letters to their own awesomeness and throwing in some X-mas trappings…
Some specials are honestly good–or at least that’s how we REMEMBER them, and no one can tell us different (Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown, Grinch, etc…)
Some suck Santa’s jolly red ass…and others….well, others are just–“special”…
Those are the kind of Holiday specials we’re going to be focusing on today–good or bad isn’t really a consideration, instead, we’re gonna explore specials that being a nerd may not be essential to like, but it’s gonna be a big help. They’re from tv shows or feature characters that are beloved to our community–OR they’re so weird and esoteric that only a nerd would bother finding them, much less watching them.
If you are NOT a nerd (first of all, welcome–nice to see you), please do not be offended if you also like some of these specials–we don’t mean to imply anything.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And the most expensive. Heating bills rise in the chilly weather, decorations aren’t exactly cheap and it seems like there are more and more people to buy for every year. It doesn’t help that the perfect gifts for the nerds you love can reach some eye-wateringly high prices. The passion of some collectors can drive costs to extremes. And that’s not always a bad thing. Without the fervour of people like that, a lot of cool comics and other interesting bits and pieces might never be propelled to the platforms they deserve. But it does mean that the common or garden nerd can be priced out of the some of the more exciting merchandise. (more…)
December has finally arrived and there’s only a couple of weeks left to get all your Christmas shopping sorted. A lot of the more organised among us will already have most of it done and will now only be struggling with the people who are trickiest to buy for. Others might not start thinking about it for another week or so yet. Either way, it’s more than likely that there will be a friend or two whose gift you can’t quite peg – nerds, after all, can be notoriously difficult to buy for. (more…)
Thanks, Deadpool! Earlier today, 20th Century Fox released a video featuring everybody’s favorite Merc with a Mouth. The video features Ryan Reynolds in full Deadpool gear, sitting in front of a Christmas tree, sipping what is hopefully just eggnog. In the video, Deadpool lays out a plan to give us the Twelve Days of Deadpool. Every day, starting today, Deadpool promotional material will be released through a different source, leading up to a new trailer being released on Christmas Day. The first trailer was pretty great and there’s no reason to think the second one won’t be just as amazing. Today, the promotional material is a spicy new Deadpool poster released through Entertainment Weekly. Check it out below!
If it’s hard to consider why its difficult to break new holiday film classics, the reason is on display upfront at the beginning of Krampus – as a disastrous Christmas pageant is captured on the cell phones of several adults who do nothing, while acts of violence that make the Battle of Fallujah look like a slap fight break out at a big box store. It’s a Wonderful Life this ain’t. While most Christmas movies are about the fundamental decency of the season breaking through the clutter, Krampus boldly says that seasons greetings don’t happen by accident, you have to repent! Christmas is coming early for gaming fans who may have always wanted to put their hands on a new Xbox One system but have bulked at the nearly $400 price tag. For you penny-pinchers, or people with penny-pinchers in your close family, circle of friends or as significant others, Microsoft is giving you a break this coming holiday season with special prices on their latest gaming system, and that includes exclusive bundle packs that feature some of this fall’s most anticipated new games. In the console wars, being the first to cut prices is usually seen as a sign of weakness, but with a successful launch last fall and over 5 million units shipped so far, it maybe that Microsoft just wants to ensure that it’s a very Xbox Xmas. No, there are not two Larry the Cable Guys and the headline refers to the one you’re thinking about. For some strange reason that defies explanation, someone is working on a sequel to Jingle All the Way. You may recall the original film, it was released in 1996 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad as dads competing to get their hands on a very popular action figure called Turbo Man. So is Turbo Man making a comeback after 18 years? In toys, as with everything, what goes around comes around. (more…)
