Christopher Meloni

Christopher Meloni, best known as Law And Order: SVU‘s resident badass: Detective Elliot Stabler, is adding Sin City: A Dame To Kill  to his comic book flick resume.

According to the report via according to Deadline, Meloni will be doing what he does best in SC2 and playing a cop, but in a central role, not just “Random Police Officer #1”.

Meloni’s years portraying the morally absolutist, but ethically questionable Stabler should serve him well as a resident of Frank Miller‘s dark and violent, yet incredibly stylized world. We look forward to seeing him kicking ass first and asking questions later come October.

Meanwhile, fellow cast member and genre film juggernaut Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises) had this to say about the Sin City aesthetic and Director Robert Rodriguez:

“I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality. Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez.”

With the likes of Meloni and Gordon-Levitt joining returning cast members Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Jessica Alba, and Rosario Dawson, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For looks like it could be this year’s nerd movie sleeper hit.

Coinciding with the re-release of  Watchmen “Ultimate Cut” on Blu-ray this week, director Zack Snyder spoke with L.A. Times about the serious tone we can expect in Man of Steel.

“It’s a more serious version of Superman,” he says. “It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we’ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.”

Well, that was nice. Hearing Snyder speak about the character with such vigor is convincing. Truthfully,  I believe Snyder has a better understanding of Superman than most.

Supes is a hard egg to crack. Literally, he’s indestructible. Quite frankly, though, he’s not as compelling as other superheroes out there. Simply for the fact that he lacks conflict. Think about it, interest comes from tension, and tension from conflict. Yes, Supes has had few moral dilemmas here and there, but truly, what affecting conflict do you find in an indestructible, incorruptible, morally absolute, god-like character? Not much, I’ll tell you.

Snyder took one of the most horrendous jobs ever… making Superman interesting. Perhaps Snyder has crafted a version of Superman that can finally be seen as one of us. A man with more vulnerable weaknesses than just a stick of kryptonite.

Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Michael Kelly, Richard Shiff, Russell Crow and written by David S. Goyer hits theaters June 14th, 2013.

In a movie, music is everything. Even with a stellar cast, strung together with strong writing and insane visuals, a movie could become unwatchable without a banging musical score. Thankfully, if your Hollywood blockbuster is lacking that musical touch then Hans Zimmer is the man to call.

With over 100 film scores to his credit, including Rain Man, The Last Samuari, Inception and the entire Christopher Nolan Batman franchise, Hans is a natural choice when it comes to making beautiful music. So contrary to reports from last year, Zimmer has been called up once again to score the upcoming Man of Steel feature film. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, Hans said:

My heart belongs to Batman… I wouldn’t even know how to go and give voice to it [Man of Steel].

But that was then. Now that his work on The Dark Knight Rises is finished, Variety is reporting that Zimmer has signed on to create the score for the Warner Bros. reboot. It’s going to be tough though, since Zimmer must contend with the iconic theme to Richard Donner‘s original Superman from 1978, created by John Williams. Does this mean he’ll be revamping the 34 year old theme currently humming in your head (we’re doing that too)?

[It] happens to be one of his greatest themes…So no. And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no.

Zack Snyder is one lucky man. Not only does he get to use the theme associated with one of the greatest DC characters of all time, but one of the greatest living composers today will bring it back to theaters. Whatever brought on this change of heart will probably be mentioned in the near future, should Hans ever release a statement as to why he signed on.

Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Laurence Fishburne and Richard Schiff hits theaters June 14th.

HBO has premiered the full trailer for True Blood Season Five. This NerdBastard hasn’t really watched much, but the addition of Christopher Meloni to the cast has gotten me interested. All you True Blood fans . . . is it worth a re-look?

The new season begins on June 10th.

True Blood” takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source. Alan Ball created and executive produces the show, based on the best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

‘True Blood’ Season 5 Teaser Trailer

HBO has released the first teaser trailer for the fifth season of True Blood, with the tag line, “In Bon Temps, Nothing Stays Buried Forever.” There’s no actual footage from the season in the trailer, but it’s sure to amp up any fan of the vampire/werewolf/faerie/witch melodrama.

Season five of True Blood will bring some new faces to Bon Temps in the forms of Valentina Cervi (Miracle at St. Anna) and Christopher Meloni (Law and Order: SVU). I really, really hope we are not exposed to naked Meloni. That would be unfortunate. Just sayin’.

Speaking of nude scenes, anybody know if there is a super cut of all the Anna Paquin sex scenes?

Christopher Meloni will be playing a “major role” in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. What role will he be playing? That hasn’t been revealed yet, but speculation has centered around him possibly being cast to play General Sam Lane and not Lex Luthor as was previously considered.

From his discussion with Vulture:

When Vulture caught up with the now ex-Law & Order: SVU star at the Public Theater Gala earlier this week, he told us he’d be instead playing a general in the movie. But when we pressed for more information about the role, he said, “I can’t tell you, or I’d have to kill you.” We did manage to learn that he starts filming at the end of August and he’ll shoot his part over the course of five months in locations including Chicago, Vancouver, and Edwards Air Force Base.

Meloni is best known for his roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and in Oz.

The current cast for Man of Steel includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond and Russell Crowe. Production will start next month, according to recent reports, and may be in theaters in December 2012.
