Captain America. Two words that have been on a multitude of lips over the past couple months. Many had been anxiously anticipating the release of Captain America: Civil War, the third film featuring Steve Rogers, as the thought of the Avengers being divided piqued a lot of people’s curiosity. Twenty-four days after its release, the Disney-backed blockbuster crossed the $1 Billion mark in ticket sales. But what has turned from a discussion to a campaign, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are making their voices heard… they want Disney to #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend. (more…)
Doin’ it and doin’ it and doin’ it well. Spider-Man represents Queens, Captain America was raised out in Brooklyn. You know who’s really doin’ it well? Marvel Studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now comprised of twelve movies that have made a combined total of over $9 billion dollars. With that kind of money you could send almost a quarter of a million kids to college! Or you could run about 9 presidential campaigns. Whichever. The point is that Marvel has been outpacing and outperforming every other superhero franchise for almost a decade now. This article will look at why Disney-owned Marvel releases such exemplary material and, in the spirit of holding them accountable, what things Marvel could improve upon. SPOILER WARNING on… most superhero movies. If a superhero movie is brought up, there’s a good chance some sort of spoiler will follow.
Civil War is the big MCU punch-out that’s been hyped to the Moon and back and we can get why, especially considering the wider implications this will have on the larger timeline. While some fans had their doubts, test audiences were particularly hyped after the first screenings and now, Sebastian Stan, the Winter Soldier, had some pretty great first impressions to lay down on us…
God, that Captain America: Civil War trailer was a beautiful thing, wasn’t it? Not only did it really bring the action and give Marvel fans everywhere a reason cheer (and War Machine fans everywhere shed a tear), the newest trailer also brought out Cap 3‘s secret weapon: Spider-Man. After years of wishing on stars and throwing pennies in wells, Spider-Man fans are finally getting their wish: Marvel Studios is finally bringing Spider-Man, a MARVEL Spider-Man, to the big screen and, oh, man, can’t you just taste the excitement in the air? Once of the coolest things about seeing Spidey in the Civil War trailer was getting a glimpse of the newest take on that iconic suit! Of course, Marvel Universe newcomer Tom Holland isn’t the first to don the suit and throughout the years, the webslinger has had his fair share of fashion hits and misses. We decided to take a look back, and a bit forward, to compare these suits and, man, how Spidey has changed.
From the moment he stepped into frame as Lt. Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Iron Man 2 and told Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark (and essentially moviegoers, as well) “It’s me and I’m here, so get over it and move on,” fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been 100% behind Don Cheadle as War Machine. He was great in Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3, and the worst part of his performance in Avengers: Age of Ultron is that it was all too brief. Now, fans are looking forward to seeing him in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War and, according to Cheadle, Rhodey plays a “pivotal” role in the film. You can find out what he had to say recently at the Sundance Film Festival, but first a word of caution: While this article doesn’t contain any confirmed spoilers from Civil War, those wishing to remain completely oblivious to the film until they see it should stop reading now.

Oh, man, Spider-Man fans, is your Spidey Sense tingling? It looks like fans of the comic book favorite may have just been treated to an early present. One of the toughest things about producing a movie in the Digital Age is that very few things that the filmmakers have tried to keep secret remain secret. With Suicide Squad, for example, unofficial photos were being posted daily, most of them very obviously being cell phone photos. Considering the audiences’ excitement for Marvel’s take on Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, it is a bit surprising that fans haven’t heard more about the character, especially with The Russo Brothers filming Captain America: Civil War, in which the web-slinger is rumored to play a part. Well, it looks like things are finally changing a bit as we now have an unofficial cast list that may shed some light on where Spider-Man’s next stand-alone movie may be heading. (more…)
Are your ears still ringing from the cheers heard around the world once Marvel and Sony announced Spider-Man would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It is absolutey understandable if they are. After years of declining box office receipts, Sony finally considered The Amazing Spider-Man 2 the last straw and because The Mouse gets what The Mouse wants, a deal was worked out in which Spidey would finally join Captain America et al. While the world waits with bated breath for the newest, and what some would consider the truest, incarnation of the character, a Twitter account seems to be dropping images that just may include our first look at Spider-Man’s suit, which fans will finally see on screen in Captain America: Civil War.
