Colonel Stars

It’s breaking news from Deadline which has also been confirmed by Mark Millar on his forum, Jim Carrey has indeed been cast in Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall in the role of Colonel Stars. It’s something the blogosphere has felt confidant about all weekend, including us here at Nerd Bastards, but it’s always nice to get confirmation. Here’s some of what Millar posted concerning the exciting news,

Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call with Jim a couple of weeks back and we’ve been itching to talk about this ever since because the energy Jim’s going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy…

Nic is really good friends with Jim Carrey and it’s well known to everyone that Jim loved the first movie. In fact, I think he had lunch with Vaughn the day before that Conan O’Brien kick-Ass/ Superman duet you can see in the link. So we’ve been talking very informally about this for a little over two years now. We didn’t quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits and I’ve been a fan since I first saw him. I remember reading an interview with Spielberg, a great one back in Empire for a JAws anniversary, where he was saying that Jim would be his choice for Chief Brodie were he shooting Jaws now. He said he could see the brilliant dramatic range Jim had as well as the comedy people knew him for at that time. For all these reasons, combined with the conversation we had with him on the phone, I’m so genuinely excited about this. I can’t wait to see what he does once the cameras are on.

Millar also confirmed that Kick-Ass 2 will be covering events from issue #1 of the Hit Girl miniseries through Kick-Ass 2 issue #7. The Hit Girl miniseries is currently running with issue #3 expected to ship the week after next.

Are you guys excited for Jim Carrey joining the cast of Kick-Ass 2?

Kick-Ass 2 is just days away from principle photography. Most of the original cast is confirmed to return for the Mark Millar and John Romita comic-based sequel. There’s a bunch of new players as well. Donald Faison (Gravity Guy), John Leguizamo (Red Mist’s bodyguard Javier), Andy Nyman (Tumor) and Lindy Booth (Night-Bitch), to name a fewWho else has signed on for a pair of tights? Well, we’ve heard the rumors, and yes, they appear to be true!

According to a hinted tweet from Wadlow’s Twitter:

Now,  if we subtract “f’n” out of that tweet we’re left with “Alrighty then!”, a signature catch-phrase of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective star Jim Carrey. So there. This Twitter tease, pretty much affirms the report made by Deadline, which suggested Universal was courting Carrey for the role.

So, who’s this Colonel?  Fans of the series will know him as a gun wielding member of the “Justice Forever”, a lower budget version of DC‘s Justice League and ally to Kick-Ass.

Colonel Stars (his full comic book name) has more of an authoritarian presence in the series, so it’ll be interesting to see how Jim – a comedic actor- will pull this off.

An official statement should be anticipated in the next few days. Kick-Ass 2 is slated for a theatrical release on June 28th, 2013.

UPDATE: Mark Millar just tweeted this as pretty much 100% confirmation : “@MintzPlasse @JeffWadlow clue- he lives with 200 raccoons and parrots, owns the mask of Loki and named by spielberg as a genius.”
