mallrats-reunion

There’s been a lot of news lately about the possibility of a second Mallrats movie. Back in 1995, Mallrats was the highly anticipated follow-up to Kevin Smith‘s big break, Clerks, but it ended up bombing. Horribly. It remained a black mark on Smith’s IMDb profile for some time, and then Cop Out was released. Kidding aside though, the film has been received more warmly by fans in the last 20 years, which undoubtedly helps Smith make a case for Mallrats 2. But that’s still about two years away at least, so what are Mallrats fans to do in the meantime. How about a reunion of some of the cast for a car commercial? No, I’m not drunk. (more…)

Another Super Bowl has come and gone, and another batch of overly hyped but in the end, disappointing Super Bowl commercials have aired. I’m sure everyone feels this way but I swear the commericials when I was a kid were more memorable. Maybe now we’re all too old and jaded to see the fun in a million dollar advertising campaign.

But out of all the commercials aired this year only one seemed to pander to those of us craving some nerdy nostalgia. It was MetLife‘s commericial starring just about every cartoon idol from our childhood. All coming together to celebrate, uhh, insurance on some grassy hill.

I don’t really get it either. And bringing Voltron and Scooby-Doo into the picture doesn’t get me excited about life insurance.

What did you think of MetLife’s or any of the other Super Bowl commercials? Did you have a favorite?I think I liked the yogurt one with John Stamos getting head butted. I literally lol-ed.

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut.

Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

Would you like to watch the awesome lobby shootout scene from The Matrix synced with “Mambo #5?” Of course you do. In fact, I’m surprised how well these two mesh together. The Youtuber claims no editing was involved to make it work, so if we take him at his word, this is almost spooky. (TDW: Geek)

The guys and gals at Playstation have had some awesome commercials in the past, they’ve made tons off their character Kevin Butler, but this takes it to a new level.

The premise: A mass meeting of characters from every major franchise in the Playstation catalog thanking the gamer “Michael” for saving them, or their world. The actors playing said franchise hits are damn well spot on too, going right down to the finest details of each character.

Sure, they are doing this to sell games, but to have characters like Drake and Kratos saying “thank you” to someone who spent hours playing them is pretty touching. See how many cameos you can spot.

Makes that ass dent in your couch worth it now, doesn’t it?

I don’t know if you’ve seen the Tik-Tok/Star Trek music video, I suggest you look it up. It makes Ke$ha’s song almost bearable. This Doctor Who video though, comes in a close second. Warning, full of spoilers for “The Wedding of River Song.” (Bleeding Cool)

Star Tours reopens for business in Disneyland this Friday. Start booking your flights now, and plan for an extended stay. You’ll be needing all the time you’ve got to fully enjoy all 54 possible adventures. Yup, 54! They include excursions to Tatooine, Hoth, Naboo, Coruscant, Kashyyyk and an under construction Death Star. Besides simply touring the planets you can also be thrown in to a desert pod race or dodging trees as you speed through a forest.

Expect to see lots of familar face, Star Tours will include appearances by Darth Vader, Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, R2-D2, Yoda, C-3PO and Jar Jar Binks. Not sure how Leia is making an appearance, I can only assume it’ll be old footage from the movies. And Jar Jar, well, can’t say we didn’t see that one coming. Frank Oz and Anthony Daniels also returned to voice their respective characters.

But why am I telling you all this crap, watch the new commercial below to get a little peak at the new Star Tours. Whose gonna be the lucky one first in line this Friday?

Don't kill me for using this image, George Lucas.

In November, we brought you news that adidas and Star Wars were teaming up for a line of Force-inspired clothing and shoes. Today, you can experience the power of the dark side. Um, I mean the commercial.

adidas (I HATE lowercasing adidas. It feels so wrong.) is scheduled to launch its adidas Originals Star Wars line this spring, and though we’ve already seen images of the sneakers and apparel, I think this is the first time we’ve gotten a commercial.

The video is filled with cameos galore, from Daft Punk to David Beckham. Why? They apparently “live in the neighborhood,” where “originality comes to life as artists, athletes, and celebs celebrate their style.” I wish I could be the girl who got paid to write that.

From the Star Wars site:

The most iconic moments and beloved figures from the Star Wars saga are translated to the streets, telling their creative story across a forceful collection of adidas Originals footwear and apparel.

Celebrate this powerful alliance to the beat of a new and improved remix of the Imperial March, as Vader and the stormtroopers land on our street corner greeted by Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, Calle 13, DJ Neil Armstrong and Daft Punk representing their originality. No matter which side of the Force you’re on, believe the hype, this year is going to be massive.

Weird, no? Still, the commercial is entertaining, if not unsettling. There’s even a point where the swing of a baseball bat sounds like a lightsaber — which I’ve always thought was appropriate. Take a look:
