Dan Harmon Undertakes New Cartoon Project

Dan Harmon, most known as the creator of cult classic television comedy Community and co-creator (with Justin Roiland) of [adult swim]’s cosmic success Rick and Morty, is a busy man. Between the ongoing promise of a Community movie, the third season of Rick And Morty, and the weekly Harmontown podcast (of which there’s even a frigging documentary), you would think the man would be unable to give us any more than he already has— and yet, today he announced another show coming soon to our screens! Rescued from cancellation by Yahoo! last spring, Community may yet realize its implied promise of six seasons and a movie. This despite the fact that it’s lost almost half the original cast (Yvette Nicole Brown departed in the off-season to deal with family issues), but with a majority of the cast remaining, and some new recruits coming onboard, Greendale will now live on, on the internet, as it should be (I guess). It was a big gamble to get recruited by Yahoo, and a big gamble for Yahoo to enter the getting-more-crowded original content game, and with the premiere of Community coming very, very soon now, it seems that the show is doubling down on fan interest by evoking another new “Age.” (more…)

Community Season Six Premiere Date Announced

Community has had quite the history, and it’s a major feat that the show has managed to stay on the air despite the struggling ratings and behind-the-scenes malarkey that has been thrown in the show’s way throughout its run. Surprisingly, the show has remained a resilient cult favourite, fulfilling the “six-seasons-and-a-movie” doctrine. The show has seen Chevy Chase falling out with series creator Dan Harmon; Harmon then getting fired; Chase deciding to leave; Season four losing its way due to the departure of Harmon; Harmon being reinstated. And, just when we thought things were copacetic,  show favorite Donald Glover announced his plans to leave, with Yvette Nicole Brown following suit after season five. You have to admire the tenacity of the remaining cast and crew and the respect they uphold towards the fans. (more…)

The halls of Greendale Community College just became a bit less bubbly and quite a bit darker. Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays sandwich shop owner and study group member Shirley Bennett on NBC-now-Yahoo! Screen’s Community, has announced that she will be leaving the series, TV Guide reports. The actress was asked to be released from her contract with the show due to family concerns, specifically caring for her father, who is ill. (more…)

Ok, so who remembers the teen movie entitled ‘Not Another Teen Movie? I don’t because I don’t watch corny stuff. But let’s imagine that somebody wanted to build off the fad of those parody movies and pitched ‘Not Another High School Show‘ for television. It was developed in 2007 and a pilot was shot for Comedy Central but it wasn’t picked up. The show was allegedly supposed to include individual sketches, an example of which somebody found in a trashcan and put on YouTube. It’s called ‘Muffy The Vampire Slayer’ and holy cats are you in for it. Not to dissect it too deeply before you’ve watched the clip, but let’s just say that it starred Alison Brie in the title role. Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence pops in for a few seconds too. Wait a minute, this sounds awesome… (more…)

Yesterday, the world of the Internet brought us the wonderful news that Community would be returning for a sixth season. The folks at Yahoo were gracious enough to have faith in the show’s return, so we’ll have the chance to see 13 new episodes on Yahoo Screen come this fall. The tag of #sixseasonsandamovie has been one of Community creator Dan Harmon’s trademarks and fans have come to expect that the journey of the series will, despite all hardship, come to fruition. Now, according to some execs over at Sony, it seems as if all shall be right in the universe – Community will indeed get its movie and… perhaps something more? (more…)

When NBC decided that Community just wasn’t doing well enough to merit a season 6, fans everywhere were deeply saddened. We would not get the six seasons and a movie that Dan Harmon has been fighting for. But when news came down the pipeline of the Internetz informing us that Hulu might be picking the show up so that it could continue, a new era of hope dawned. Unfortunately, that hope may be short-lived. (more…)
