NerdBastards everywhere are making the holidays their own by bringing that Nerd touch to the festivities. It might be the Star Trek ornament on the Christmas tree, the Thanksgiving Alien turkey with six legs, or Presidents day where we celebrate George Washington – Abraham Lincoln – and Lrrr the Ruler of Omicron Persei 8.

No holiday brings out the nerdiness better than Halloween. We get to dress up and decorate using all our wildest nerd fantasies. Nerds are a creative bunch and that creativity shines through in the pumpkins we carve. It’s not enough to carve the simple jack o lantern of the past. We have to:

Geek out our Gourds,

Pimp up our Pumpkins,

and Sci-fi up our Squashes.

So get your pumpkin carving tools, your favorite gourd, and your imagination ready to take a trek through NerdBastards neighborhood. Enjoy the fantastically carved creations of your fellow geeks and nerds and perhaps find inspiration to add to this years pumpkin. Let us know which are your favorites and send us pictures of your pumpkin carving creations this year.

These Are Some Creepily Realistic Futurama Busts

*Ahem* Welcome to the world of tomorrow…today.

These insanely realistic busts were crafted after Matt Groening‘s Futurama series, as if you didn’t already know that. Created by DeviantARTist artanis-one, a.k.a Ray Lin, these are the closest you’ll get to biting shiny metal ass (exclude that they’re all gray looking). It’s no joke either, you can actually see the wrinkles in Farnsworth’s 170 year old face. Total master craftsmanship. While Ray hasn’t made a lovable Bender yet, he has gone on to create busts of shockingly real detail for Leela, Zoidberg, Farnsworth and Nibbler.

Hit the jump for looks at Zoidberg, Leela and Nibbler.

Most comic book nerds waited with anticipation for the Jon Favreau directed Iron Man 2 and it was met with a lukewarm response. It had its faults, clunky story and overabundance of unexplored characters, but the toys in Tony Stark’s arsenal more than made up for it. Having a backup suit in a briefcase ready to kick ass was a pretty sweet part of the film.

Sooner or later fanboys start trying to build what they see, the proverbial ‘monkey see, monkey do’. The real thing is never as good as the fictional property the first time around.

Goggles up people

This fan-made version of the Mark V suit is pretty much a craft project on steroids, and not powered by Scotch like the real suit. It has the briefcase shape to it and takes 2 people to piece together (that doesn’t work too well in a battle situation). It consists of 384 individual pieces of armor, over 4,000 LEGO Technix pieces and took more than 1,200 man-hours (50 days!) to construct. This will more than help you pass your art class. Besides not stopping a pellet let alone a bullet, it doesn’t fly and the arc light is just a bunch of LEDs. It looks like a mirrored twin to the real thing; a much slower and expendable twin.

Run! it’s Skynet, they’ve finally decided that now is the time to enslave the world. Just kidding, this what happens with all the scrap metal you can find, a blowtorch and some really nerdy thoughts. The Chinese have made some awesome replicas, like that “Gundam” that they said never existed, now they add another robot developed in Japan to their army of metal statues. When you’ve got the bolts to call yourself the ‘steel legend’ (best known for his scrap metal Megatron tank) your either extremely talented or your playing D&D for way too long. Sure there not exactly 100% replicas because if Michael Bay saw these his lawyers better have their phones set to silent.

They drink motor oil and snort D batteries  (more…)
