Davis S. Goyer

During the WB Panel at SDCC, Zack Snyder did indeed confirm that a Man Of Steel sequel is in the works–and Batman will play a role. But he pointedly neglected to name the new film. Well, Comicbook.com did some digging, and signs seem to point to the title Batman vs. Superman.

Here’s what Man Of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer had to say at the Superman 75th Anniversary Panel:

“So over in Hall H at the Warner Bros.–I guess most people know now–at the end of the Warner Bros. panel, Zack came out and he brought Henry Lennix, who plays General Swanwick in Man of Steel and we–actually, Henry read a bit from [The Dark Knight Returns] and so the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015 and it’s–we’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s–that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”

Comicbook.com took this info, did some detective work, and found out:

David S. Goyer only gave two examples of what the title could be, so we did a little research, figuring that Warner Bros. would likely have registered the domain name that they would want to use for the title. It turns out that Warner Bros. owns both SupermanVsBatman.com and BatmanVsSuperman.com, which could be used to protect comic book titles as well as movie titles. However, when we added movie to the end, we found out that Warner Bros. had only registered BatmanVsSupermanMovie.com but not SupermanVsBatmanMovie.com.

It should be kept in mind, however, that BatmanVsSupermanMovie.com–according to CBM:

“was created by Warner Bros. in 2002, and was updated on November 8, 2012.”

So it’s probably too soon to say yea or nay about much of anything–but, as always, we’ll keep our eyes and ears open.

man-of-steel-poster-1

Last night while we laughed at Microsoft’s misfortune after Sony’s game-changing – and by game-changing I mean continuing to allow used games – E3 presentation, there was the announcement a sequel to Warner Bros.Man of Steel has already been greenlit. Clearly, someone is confident in there as of yet unreleasd Superman flick. It’s not entirely surprising as the buzz around the film is at a fever pitch with almost every early review full of praise, so rather than striking while the iron is hot why not strike while it’s just heating up? That way, you’ve got a jump start on your hot iron, or something, right? I’m bad at metaphors.

Anyway, the sequel will repeat the first’s formula with Zack Snyder returning to direct and David S. Goyer tapped to write the script. Interestingly, Goyer’s deal is for three pictures: Man of Steel, Man of Steel 2, and a Justice League movie with Superman. Christopher Nolan‘s role as producer, while not finalized, is reported to not be as “full blown” as it was for Man of Steel, where he creatively oversaw the project and helped form this new Superman franchise.

Seeing as a sequel is already on its way, are you more or less excited to see Man of Steel when it released this Friday, June 14th? With Zod as the big bad in Man of Steel, who’d you like to see Supes tackle in Man of Steel 2? Luther? Doomsday? Metallo? Darkseid? A team up of villains? And, do you think this sequel will open the door for the long awaited Justice League movie?
