Once upon a time, Marvel Comics was being dragged hopelessly into bankruptcy. In order to stay afloat, they sold off precious movie rights to their most popular characters. That money helped enable them to create their own studio, and that’s why we get to see awesome films like ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy.’ Those film companies would become rivals and prove themselves incapable of regularly releasing hits starring the Marvel properties. An attempt at making a good Hulk movie bombed and the rights went back home. Same deal with Daredevil. But Spiderman is a longshot. Sony Pictures is dead set on keeping that property, even if that have to reboot it every few years – origin story rehash included! And Cinema Sins and Screen Junkies will be there to point at them and laugh. Welcome to 19 whole minutes of blasting the crapfest that is ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2.’
The cast and crew of The Amazing Spider-Man returned to New York this week and, over the weekend for a few additional scenes. A ton of set photos splashed onto the net, but we were too lazy too post them. The pictures showed Andrew Garfield walking around set and then some of him as Spidey in action. I’m particularly fond of the one with the tissue stuck up his nose (above). Then there were few pics of Captain Stacy (played by Dennis Leary) examining a webbed up thug with a wedgie. Then there were images of Rhys Ifans as Doctor Connors walking around with a regrown right arm. All of these are ready to view after the jump. We also have a video, which hit the net today, featuring the webslinger in action in what appears to be an early version of his iconic costume.
A bunch of new photos hit the web today from the filming of Marc Webb’s untitled Spiderman reboot. There were the usual things associated with Spiderman, like a The Daily Bugle delivery van and a bunch of NYPD cars; however; what really got everyone’s “spidey senses” tingling was one particular picture of a sign posted outside of the Museum of Contemporary art in L.A. that cautioned people to be careful around animals. Clearly, this must have something to do with Rhys Ifans character’s alter ego Lizard. Who knows, maybe there is even a chance that the picture released of Andrew Garfield last week in which he looks as thought he took one brutal ass kicking is related to an altercation with the Lizard. Check out the pictures after the jump and draw your own conclusions. The Spiderman reboot which also stras Emma Stone, Dennis Leary and Martin Sheen will be swinging our way in 3D in July 2012!
In what my opinion is a great addition to the cast of the Marc Webb’s Spiderman Reboot, Dennis Leary is in negotiations to play Gwen Stacy’s (Emma Stone) father Police Captain George Stacy. The role was previously played by James Cromwell.
There’s no indication yet of what Webb has planned for Leary’s character. In the comics the character of George Stacy dies in a battle between Doc Ock and Spidey; I don’t see this happening until a second Spidey is talked about. Knowing Leary though, he’ll most likely have a small but endearing role which could possibly lead to some growth for the part if there’s a second one.
I’ve liked Leary ever since he played an asshole step-dad in Sandlot. And he continues to play a jerk on Rescue Me. What do you guys think about the casting choice??
Leary will join a cast which so far includes Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Never Let Me Go) as Parker, Emma Stone (Superbad, Easy A) as love interest Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as, The Lizard, Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now, The Departed, Catch Me If You Can) as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May
