Pablo Picasso once said that “bad artists copy, great artists steal.” Could the same be said about David Ayer and his iteration of the Joker in Suicide Squad? The new look of the Joker played by Jared Leto, covered in tattoos and having metal capped teeth, was one of the more controversial elements of the controversial film early on, but in the wake of the film’s release, how the Joker looks is the least of our collective concerns. That is unless you’re Ninja, one of the members of the South African rap group Die Antwoord. The stars of Chappie are fightin’ mad about Ayer “jockin’ our style,” and they’ve got some incomprehensible words for the filmmaker. (more…)

When the first teaser arrived earlier last year for Neill Blomkamp’s (District 9, Elysium) Chappie, it appeared as if the movie was going to be Short Circuit for a more adult based audience, hinting at a touching, humorous adventure from the visionary director. However, going by the new trailer, there appears to be a far more serious side to the story, hinting that there’s a serious topic at the centre of the film. (more…)
