Just when we thought we were done talking about NerdBastardsDredd April Fool’s Day Joke, they drag us back in! Word on the Internet is that the Facebook page devoted to getting a Dredd sequel, Bring Back Dredd, has expanded their petition to include a series by Netflix, HBO, or Amazon Prime. Perhaps our little April Fool’s joke that returned from the dead a couple of weeks ago and went viral opened some eyes to the potential of such a series. You can help out by signing the petition in the link below. (more…)

There are moments on the Internet where you throw out a wish and someone, somewhere, hears that wish and makes it come true. As I write this I am having one of those wonderful moments. Like a lot of you, I’m totally on board for a Karl Urban Dredd sequel. The problem being that even with all the dedicated fans efforts that made A Day to Dredd movement a success the last two years, the Dredd sequel is still sitting on a shelf in Hollywood limbo. Dredd executive producer Adi Shankar wants that sequel just as bad as the rest of us and while he’s been unable to get the sequel into production, he does want to thank all the fans for their support by creating a free Dredd web-mini-series that focuses on what this Dredd fan thinks are the coolest Dredd villains ever, the Dark Judges. The latest Deadpool movie announcement must have reinvigorated the fans of Dredd who want another Dredd Movie. If the fans of one long-delayed and tossed about hero can help get their crazy Merc with a Mouth to the big screen, why not slip in a Dredd sequel as well? Last year’s Day of Dredd was a successful campaign to drive Dredd up the list for DVD sales, rentals, and streaming downloads in hopes of nudging those in Hollywood with the power to make a Dredd sequel happen. Dredd fans hope to top last year’s results on October 1st, what can you do to help? (more…)

More Hope for ‘Dredd 2’? Sort of…

For those of us that still cling to the possibility of there being a sequel to 2012’s Dredd, every bit of news is good news. Unless they say they never plan on doing it… then that would be bad news, of course. But this week does not bring that final confirmation of abandonment. Instead, it looks like things are going much the same for Dredd 2 as they have been for the last two years. Read on for more. (more…)

One of the most underrated films in the last few years, Pete Travis’ incarnation of Dredd, while it didn’t do so hot at the box office, has risen to gather quite the fan following. Petitions abound for a sequel, the people cry out for more and even Karl Urban, the Dredd-man himself, has expressed how intensely he wants another film of the franchise to be made. Things have been up and down, but it may be that the powers-that-be are reconsidering. (more…)

The bloody fight for a sequel to the 2012 movie Dredd still rages on.  So far, the brains behind the movement have managed to gather 80,000 signatures and boost Dredd DVD and Blu-ray sales and rentals to show the folks with the fat wallets that the fans are indeed with them.  And with a new set of Dredd comics coming out – a continuation of the film in their own right – Dredd sequel supporters are ready to take this to the second round.  September 18th is the day of battle and the following message from the official support site tells you what you can do to help:

On 18th September, we’re encouraging everyone to take part in a massive DREDD SEQUEL DAY OF ACTION – we’ve already made the moneymen who could get behind a sequel sit up and take notice by consistently keeping the DVD and Blu-Ray in the charts on Amazon and now on Netflix.
We’re asking everyone who’s signed the petition to come together next Wednesday and drive DREDD back up the charts – if everyone who’s signed the petition bought an extra DVD or Blu-Ray (either for themselves or as a present for a friend) or rented/bought it on iTunes and Netflix it will send the loudest signal yet that WE WANT MORE DREDD!
So spread the word that on Wednesday 18th September, you’re going to bring DREDD back into the public eye! Plus, it’s the day that the new comic book sequel comes out, with lots of media attention planned for this and the campaign.
Thanks to Rebellion for helping put this newsletter together – we’re also really pleased to reveal that the official T-shirt for the campaign is now available, so you can wear your support with pride!
So, you ready?

Thanks to Comic Book Movie for the heads-up.

Back in 2012, writer-producer Alex Garland brought us a new, truer to the story version of Judge Dredd with the movie Dredd.  And while many found it to be an excellent if not outstanding film, it didn’t seem to impress the studios enough to get funding for a sequel.  Both Garland and Karl Urban (the Judge himself) are loyal fans of the comic and really want to see this happen, but haven’t been having too much luck with it.  So they’re trying a new tactic to get studios to notice – they’re bringing the fans in on it.

No, it’s not a Kickstarter campaign.  It’s a petition that you can sign online to let your voice be heard that you want to see another Dredd flick.  They also have a Facebook page dedicated to showing support, so you can head over and “like” that one if you so choose.  I’m not sure how well this will affect their chances of going on to Dredd II, but it sure as hell can’t hurt.

Thanks to BleedingCool for helping to spread the love.
