droids

Are there two characters more indicative of the Star Wars saga it’s C-3PO and R2-D2? You may disagree, but they’re the first two main characters you meet in A New Hope, and you spend most of the first 20 minutes of the movie with them, seeing this galaxy, and this story, through their eyes. Plus they’re the only two characters who have appeared in every movie of the series thus far.

So what of it? Could C-3PO and R2-D2 make an appearance in J.J. AbramsStar Wars Episode VII? The man to ask is Anthony Daniels, who portrayed Threepio in all six Star Wars movies, and Digital Spy recently did. Here’s Daniels’ response:

“Look, it’s all very early days and I don’t want to wear anybody out by speculating or letting you waste your energy by saying ‘What do you think? I’m certainly not sitting by the phone, but it’s always nice when it rings. Do you know what I mean? It never occurred to me that it would happen. Everybody’s really happy that Disney have taken over the mantle. Kathy Kennedy is so well loved and she is carrying George Lucas’s torch so much further.”

Well that’s not a no. I remember once hearing a rumor that at the end of Episode IX it would be revealed that the whole saga was told through R2 and Threepio’s memory banks, although that’s probably pretty unlikely now. Still, considering that Daniels has been involved all prior Wars films, as well as giving voice to Threepio on the cartoon Droids, the Star Wars radio plays, and in numerous video games and other media, if the interpreter droid does appear in Episode VII, it will be hard to keep Daniels away.

R2D2 Starring in “That’s Not a Wookie”

Times are tough for a working Droid. The rebel alliance is triumpant, the Empire is in ruins, the need for Droids in peace time just isn’t what it used to be. A Droids gotta eat though, but Han always said, “A job is a job.”

What started out as a cool full sized cardboard R2D2 filled with treats for Emmett the Grizzly Bear at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo turned into an erotic “Bear on Droid” porn fest. Oh the things a Droid must do to survive.

Wait, R2!

IT’S  A TRAP!

It’s a Driod SNUFF FILM!!!!!

R2!!!!!!!!!

OH THE DROIDMANITY!

Star Wars and Comic-Con. They’ve been together since 1974 and are one of the longest and strongest relationships in the whole geek world. Could you imagine a Comic-Con without legions of Stormtroopers and Slave Leias? Unthinkable!

This year they brought out some real goodies Star Wars nerds are going to lose themselves over. First, in celebration of the entire Star Wars saga coming to Bluray we were treated to a sneak peak at those promised deleted scenes. This sizzle reel of clips shows off never before seen footage from the original trilogies, like Luke with his new lightsaber and R2-D2 running like hell from a Wampa. Or rolling, he can’t really run.

Excited? It’s new Star Wars that wasn’t a hack job to score more money from fans! Or, wait, these probably are included to give us more reason to throw away money on movies we already own five times over. But, whatever, whoo! Star Wars on Bluray come September!

For the other big Star Wars announcement today, you’ve heard of Kinect Star Wars, right? The new Kinect game releasing this holiday season which will allow you to be a Jedi. Well, as close to a Jedi as Microsoft and LucasArts can manage, which from what I’ve seen looks pretty damn good. With the Kinect you’ll be able to wield a lightsaber, control the force, pilot a pod racer and possibly even murder younglings but I haven’t been able to confirm that yet.

In another totally awesome way to smuggle more money from us they’ve released a Kinect Star Wars bundle with what may the coolest skin for an Xbox 360…ever! It’s an Xbox designed to look and sound like Artoo with a golden controller channeling Threepio’s shiny ass! Just look at it! It’s soooo beautiful. It’s only going to set you back about $500, but for this much beautiful awesomeness, that’s chump change. Here are the specs,

-Kinect Star Wars game
– Custom R2-D2-themed Xbox 360 Console with custom sounds
– White Kinect Sensor
– Custom C-3PO-themed Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
– 320 GB Hard Drive
– Xbox 360 Wired Headset
– Kinect Adventures game
– Exclusive downloadable content

Take a look through the gallery for more images of the fabulous console. Has Comic-Con delivered on some great Star Wars stuff, or what?!

Image of the Day: Awesome Star Wars-themed mobile food truck

Food trucks are all the rage right now. There are taco trucks, cupcake trucks, even trucks with food based on hit television series (HBO’s Game of Thrones). But can those food trucks make the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs and deliver on tasty grilled cheese? (blastr)
