E.T.

As a fan of documentaries, I am very much looking forward to this one. As I’m sure you all heard by now, director Zak Penn and the film crew for Atari: Game Over, proved earlier this year that the urban legend was right, and that all the unpurchased cartridges were buried in a New Mexico landfill. But of course, that’s just part of the story. Later this year, fans and curiosity seekers will relive the journey of the nascent days of video gaming, where the sky was the limit, programmers were rock stars, and a video game based on the most popular movie of all time nearly killed a billion dollar business while it was still in its crib. Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

ABOVE: I, for one, always thought E.T. was insanely creepy looking. That little, long necked, alien bastard haunted many of my dreams. Painting him on a child’s face doesn’t make him any less horrifying, either. It makes him worse! Fears aside, I have to commend the artistry fro Christy Lewis of Daizy Design Face Painting. Truly, she makes the most astonishing face paints. You see the character and forget there’s a human face behind it. Wow! [FashionablyGeek]

Above: Is a Zombie bite contagious to aliens species? No idea, but Andy J. Hunter is going to help us find out soon enough thanks to changing up this famous E.T. scene to a full out zombie horde. Elliott is going to have to pedal fast if he wants to stay ahead of the undead shambling because all the magic fingers in the world aren’t going to save him now. E.T. gonna hunger for flesh. We all remember E.T. from when we were kids, right?  I certainly do.  They made me watch it in kindergarten and I was so terrified I’ve refused to watch it since then.

Well, it’s officially been 30 years since it’s been a thing. And to celebrate that, they’re releasing the E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Combo Pack, which includes the original 1982 movie, an interview with director Steven Spielberg, “The E.T. Journals”, which will have never-before-seen behind the scenes footage.

In addition, the film will be playing in theaters just one night, on October 3, to celebrate its long-standing success, and Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events, shared a few words:

Thirty years ago, Steven Spielberg introduced the world to E.T. – the alien who stole our hearts with a timeless and endearing story about friendship and courage. Together with TCM and Universal Pictures, Fathom Events invites audiences – young and old – to experience the magic of ‘E.T.’ once again in movie theaters.

Coming Soon shared a few more details about these events:

Presented by NCM Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Universal Pictures as part of the studio’s 100th Anniversary celebration, the event features the all-new, digitally remastered feature film, as well as a special taped introduction by TCM host Ben Mankiewicz, who will take audiences through the making of this modern classic. Fans will discover how Spielberg came up with the idea for E.T. and learn what working on the film was like for the film’s three young stars. As an added treat, Drew Barrymore, who plays Gertie in the film and who currently co-hosts TCM’s “The Essentials” showcase, shares what the film means to her 30 years later.

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial remains one of the most successful movies of all time, ranking 4th in the USA box office.  It has brought in so many different awards and received so many accolades for the way that it inspired people and brought fear into the hearts of others (like me).

Tickets for these events are available through local participating theaters as well as through the official  Fathom Events website.

A Pre-order page at Amazon has been put up for the Limited Edition ET Anniversary Blu-Ray Collectors Set. Man this NerdBastard is getting old, I was 16 and remember when this came out and seeing it in the theater at the Army base in Stuttgart Germany.

The packaging for this set is  . . . is . . . is kinda crazy, but maybe crazy in a good way . . . this NerdBastard isn’t sure which it would be, crazy or crazy good. It’s not cheap that’s for sure. Check out the video below to find out what your $139.98 will get you.

What do you think? I guess if you had kids and wanted them to freak out about ET, but then if you had kids you most likely would just get the movie on Netflix and spend that $140 bucks on something frivolous like food for those kids or medical insurance.

Let everyone know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Yes, this is a real game! It’s fucking awesome! PLAY IT NOW.

E.T. fuckin’ terrifies me. It always has. I’m glad to know that I’m not alone in this, because apparently Rob at Topless Robot feels the same way. It all started when I was in my first year of kindergarten and my teacher decided it would be a great idea to show a bunch of 4 and 5 year-olds this goddamn horrific movie. I still have no idea what happens in that film other than that E.T. is a fuckin’ creeper and wanted to phone home.

So, apparently, The National Entertainment Collectibles Association, Inc. (NECA) has decided that, for the 30th anniversary of E.T., they will be producing a bunch of shit for it. Figures, plushies, toys, the works. What the fuck. Way to pass along the terror to future generations… I don’t understand why this thing is so popular! Didn’t it just have an anniversary not long ago? Gah.

Check below for the official press release.
