Pixar is a victim of its own success in a great many ways, because now if one of their movies doesn’t break you down into slobbering mess contemplating the purpose and value and your own existence, then it somehow didn’t meet expectations. But it’s okay for Pixar movies to be merely fun; fun and heartwarming without grander aspirations to remind you of your own humanity, or your own mortality. That’s where Finding Dorylives. The sequel to the 2003 smash hit Finding Nemo is the perfect sequel in that it expands the world of the original, allows its characters to grow just a little bit more, and recaptures the same sense of fun without too terribly rocking the boat. Finding Dory is certain to make a bunch of cash, while it’s been thirteen years since Finding Nemo raked in just under a billion dollars at the box office, parents will be flocking to theaters with their young ones in tow for the sequel. Throw in the popular day time host Ellen DeGeneres and this movie pretty much markets itself. There’s a new trailer out and you can check it out below. (more…)
Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that comedienne, actress, and TV personality Ellen Degeneres will return to host the Oscars for the second time Sunday March 2, 2014.
DeGeneres first hosted the awards back in 2007, for which she received a Primetime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.” (Honestly, I didn’t know you could win an award for hosting an awards show… huh.)
Ellen’s syndicated daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has earned her 45 Daytime Emmys over the course of its 10 year run. Her critically-acclaimed sitcom Ellen (originally called These Friends Of Mine) made her an international sensation when she came out as a lesbian onscreen and off in the show’s famous “Puppy Episode”.
Lately, she’s probably best known for her voice over work in PIXAR’s Finding Nemo as the adorable, yet forgetful blue tang, Dory. DeGeneres recently announced she’d be reprising this role in the long-awaited Nemo sequel: Finding Dory, due in theatres November 2015.
Here’s what Zadan and Meron had to say about the choice of DeGeneres for host:
We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are.
As for Ellen’s reaction?
I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say – the third time’s the charm.
Anyhoo, here’s her monologue from 2007, just to refresh everyone’s memory:
We now have some footage (key word: “some”) from Tim Burton‘s next flick, Dark Shadows. On Thursday March 15, The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be premiering the full theatrical trailer, and the bits that we have for you guys today are from the promo for Thursday’s episode. Basically… we’ve got a teaser of the trailer.
The film opens on May 11 and will star Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (of course). It’s not like the other actors involved in the project matter; Burton’s got his two strong regulars and that’s all that’s important, eh? (The other actors are Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and Gulliver McGrath).
