Empire Online

Comic writer Mark Millar has talked a lot about his new gig as the creative consultant, and with Empire Online’s podcast he’s talking about it again. This time though, he’s suggesting there’s a multi-year plan in effect so that he can help 20th Century Fox best take advantage of the Marvel properties they still own. Here’s what Millar had to say:

“Fox are thinking, ‘We’re sitting on some really awesome things here. There is another side of the Marvel Universe. Let’s try and get some cohesiveness going.’ So they brought me in to oversee that really. To meet with the writers and directors to suggest new ways we could take this stuff and new properties that could spin out of it.”

“The X-Men feels like a universe by itself; there’s so many characters and so many great potential spin-off characters. They asked me to come in and work out a plan, so unfortunately at this point I can’t get too specific. I DO have a three to four year plan of where things could go, but you know, I’ll be working with guys like Matthew and Josh Trank (the new director of ‘Fantastic Four’) and just figuring out how everything can work together and not contradict each other.”

“But I also don’t want to make it too much of a mess either, with everyone showing up in everyone else’s films. What my dream is, as a fan, is that when you go and see any Marvel movie that it feels as if they’re all taking place in the one universe like in the comics.”

Sounds like a plan. My biggest problem with X-Men Origins: Wolverine was that it seemed like a smorgasbord of random X-Men characters in a single movie. As long as Millar helps Fox avoid that kind of crap, he’ll be golden.

Geek Tyrant has got the hot scoop on Empire Online’s current competition:

Empire Online is currently holding a great little contest called Done in 60 Seconds Competition. They challenged filmmakers to tell the whole story of a movie in only 60 seconds any way they wanted. They currently have 20 movies that you can watch and vote on right now. FIVE of these will go forward to the Done In 60 Seconds final, to be held in London on March 26, where they will be assessed, along with entries from international finalists, by the Empire staff.

This is very reminiscent of Mad TV’s claymation renditions of our favorite holiday classics like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”  and turned it into a slew of bloody, gorey, claymaton delights. With Titles like “Raging Rudolph” and ” The Reinfather” they took the goriest scenes from Casino, Goodfellas, and the Godfather and put Rudolph’s hooves into the shoes.

This video is all of our faves, Evil Dead done in 60 seconds…

And for our record, kind of like how one of our writers talked about James Cameron’s soon to be “EPIC FAIL” Avatar, LOL, I am saying right now….I pray to sweet baby jesus and the orphans that they DO NOT remake Evil Dead, or reboot it….But we all know they will. If they made a new Freddy Krueger (Admit it…Robert Englund coulda did it again) they will make a new Ash…

This is pretty fucken hilarious. I don’t know if it’s funnier or worse tha everyone is speaking with British accents.
