Yes, friends: It’s that magical time of year once again….Comic-Con season! Comic book conventions have spread like the bacteria carried by many an unsanitary fanboy, but say “Comic-Con” and everybody automatically knows you’re referring to the San Diego Comic-Con. It is Nerd Mecca, and all of us hope to make the pilgrimage at least ONCE in our lives.
Some go for the panels where they hope to get autographs from, or even ask questions of their idols. Others go to view, and/or participate in the cosplay scene–but today, we focus on those who go to bankrupt themselves on the various exclusives SDCC offers attendees every year.
Here’s a fairly good cross-section of the delights that will be available for purchase at the San Diego Convention Center from July 18-22nd…and then never again (except when their buyers put them on eBay).
*Note: Listed are not all of SDCC’s exclusives (too goddamn many), but rather a collection of what we think are the best and most in-demand. (more…)
With just one short month until San Diego Comic-Con, hopefully your planning is well underway. Here at Nerd Bastards, we started getting ready for this year on the plane ride home from LAST year’s SDCC. This is the first in a series of columns aimed at helping you make the most of Comic-Con, whether you’re attending the event or catching the highlights online from the comfort of home. Over the next month we’ll cover getting to & around the con, surviving all 4.5 days of the show, can’t miss events/panels/ guests and of course, the precious exclusives. We’ll even get around to attending the con without a badge.
We’ll cover how to go about acquiring these treasures in a future column, but for now let’s take a look at the best exclusives that have been announced so far. (more…)
Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ABOVE: Game of Thrones Daenerys (Disney Version). Very cute, but Y U NO put Mushu? [badassdigest]
There are only three months left till this year’s San Diego Comic Con, and we here at Nerd Bastards couldn’t be happier; it’s like 4 days of Christmas for nerds. Its exclusive panels, interviews with the hottest celebrities and sneak peaks into the year’s coming blockbusters are awesome, but screw all that! What about the collectibles?
Each year, the SDCC offers a limited supply of highly coveted figures and two of the country’s toy making companies, Mattel and Hasbro, have flashed us a bit of their upcoming goodies – in a non-criminal way of course (or not?). Let’s start off with the toy that’ll have a bit of history shall we?
Hit the jump for everything that’s going to drain your wallet this summer if you’re attending the SDCC. (more…)
I’ve returned from the clusterfuck that was, New York Comic Con. I had attended this con in the past, but this year by far had to be their busiest yet. Unfortunately the crowds of people only resulted in frustration as it was difficult to get anywhere or into anything. But griping aside, that’s for another post, I still had an effin’ blast at NYCC. A show floor absolutely teeming with anything nerdy you could ever want: nerdvana.
I saw awesome cosplay, must have toys and even managed to grab a little swag. Collected below in one mega-gallery is everything I tried to capture to share with you. Hope you enjoy, and if you’re planning a trip to NYCC next year, leave you’re bubble of personal space at home.
Most people suspected that the trailer for Matthew Vaughn directed X-men: First Class was going to hit airwaves on Super Bowl Sunday. Not only was there no trailer, there wasn’t even a mention of the next film in the X-men franchise anywhere near football’s biggest day. Talk about missing the field goal and spoiling the whole game 20th Century Fox, that could have been huge. As of right now however (literally, right now) the world gets it’s first look at the X-men of the 1960’s with these exclusive trailer from the official X-men Movies Facebook page.
Get the popcorn and go-go boots ready
How was that for satisfaction? Does the trailer make up for how bad X-men 3 or Wolverine Origins was? Admit it, you hated those two. Yes, Marvel and Vaughn have magically switched up the origin of the X-men into something different (The original X-Men were Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, and Angel), but this alternate universe does give us the essence of ‘classic’ X-Men. It blends Singers X-men with a 1960’s aesthetic. Mutants. Cuban Missile Crisis. Planes. Xavier with Hair and oh so sexy Emma Frost. It should be well worth the price of admission when X-men: First Class comes out June 3rd, 2011.
FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-MEN.
It stars Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havoc, Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Kevin Bacon Sebastian Shaw, and as James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.
