Falling Skies

Good news for fans of the TNT alien invasion drama Falling Skies as the cable network has given the greenlight for the series to get a fourth season well in advance of the end of the show’s current season.

The series, which is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, follows TV’s Noah Wylie as Tom Mason, a former college professor turned leader of a resistance force against alien invasion of the planet Earth. Co-starring Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Mpho Koaho, Colin Cunningham and Sarah Carter, Falling Skies has enjoyed commercial and critical success since it premiere in 2011.

For TNT, the renewal of Falling Skies is the proverbial no-brainer. According to Deadline, the show averages 5.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery and currently sits as basic cable‚Äôs number one scripted series with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 for the summer-to-date. That’s not Walking Dead numbers, but still impressive for a basic cable series. Falling Skies is currently in its third season, which wraps on August 4th. The 10 episode fourth season will debut sometime in the summer of 2014.

Falling Skies airs Sunday nights at 10 pm EST/PST.

There’s a new five-minute reel of footage from Steven Spielberg‘s new TNT series Falling Skies, and it’s bound to ratchet up anticipation for the show, set to debut this June.

Executive-produced by Spielberg and starring Noah Wyle as a member of a group of resistance fighters struggling against an alien race called “Skitters” that have taken over the world, the series is a grim story of war against all odds and the struggle to preserve humanity, much more like War of the Worlds than Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

This footage, opening with eerie child’s drawings documenting the invasion and continuing with the warzone that is Boston, reveals a promising series with plenty of grim sci-fi struggling and lots of human anguish. You know, stuff for the kids. It’s good to see Spielberg getting back to aliens and global mayhem. Let’s just hope the series can keep up the level of quality revealed in this clip.
