Though Harry Potter’s story ended with Voldemort, the universe of wizards, magic, and Hogwarts has proven to have more stories to tell. In November 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premiered, telling now the story of Newt Scamander, a creature-lover who adventured many years before Harry was even born.
For those new to the tale, the movie is set in 1926, decades before the events of Harry Potter. Viewers follow protagonist Newt Scamander, a kind Hufflepuff who has a very unique profession: magizoologist. He finds and cares for many exotic magical creatures. In his journeys, he heads to America and finds even more trouble with creatures and magic than his timid personality would ever anticipate.
In the film’s sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Scamander’s adventures continue and begin to come a little closer to home. This time, he’s working with fan favorite great wizard, Albus Dumbledore. After all, Dumbledore does have a complicated relationship with Grindelwald, the great criminal of the film. (more…)
While Americans are enjoying a long weekend to celebrate their independence, their former overlords in the United Kingdom were beginning work on the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The continuing adventures of the British and American wizards and No-majs decades before Harry Potter entered the wizarding world will further expand the universe by focusing on the villainy of Gellert Grindelwald, and introducing the young version of his famous nemesis, Albus Dumbledore. Jude Law is an accomplished British actor. His next big role is as the King Vortigern in the upcoming King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which are pretty big shoes to fill from British folklore. Law has also played Dr. John Watson in two Sherlock Holmes movies, another part that holds a great deal of significance being the world’s most famous sidekick after Robin. The release of the Harry Potter spin-off movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a smash success last fall, and before it was even released, Warner Bros. knew it was going to be a smash success because they had already green-lighted a sequel with plans for several more sequels. But you have forgotten that before it was a movie, Fantastic Beasts was a book, and seeing as how they’ve got to start getting some promotion going for the sequel, the latest edition of the book may offer some reveals about where the next movie may be going.
