2016 is going to be a huge year for movies. HUGE! DC is finally going to get the motor going on their Extended Universe with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceand Suicide Squad. Marvel is taking things bigger and more supernatural withCaptain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange. 20th Century Fox is providing another Bryan Singer X-Men movie with X-Men: Apocalypse, as well as some less Hugh Jackman-centric offerings with Deadpool, and Gambit. There’s going to be another Ghostbustersmovie after more than a quarter century. Suffice to say there’s a lot to look forward to in 2016, but a survey done by Fandango has identified the MOST anticipated movie of 2016, and that movie is Star Wars: Rogue One! There are plenty of reasons for all the hype, even aside from the success of The Force Awakens. Read on to find out what and to see what else topped Fandango’s list.
One of the most intriguing developments coming out of Star Warsand Lucasfilm‘s acquisition by Walt Disney Studios is that we’re not just getting a new trilogy, we’re going to be getting a new movie every year. At least that’s Disney’s desire anyway. Shortly after production got underway on The Force Awakens, the first chapter of the new trilogy, Disney started recruiting talent for the first of a series of films to take place in the Star Wars universe, but is not a part of the Skywalker saga. For the first of these films we know the director (Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards), we know the star (Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones), and we know the name (Rogue One). But now, most importantly, we know what it’s going to be about… (more…)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is fast approaching its release date, with just under a half-year before we get to see the webslinger taking on the likes of Green Goblin, mecha-Rhino and Electro. But one character in the movie is still being kept under wraps. While we know that Felicity Jones has been cast, there are still several questions as to exactly who she’ll be playing. Some speculate Black Cat while others are steering in the direction of Menace. In a recent interview with Collider, Jones had the chance to talk a bit about her role. (more…)
In the villain loaded sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, the most villainous of all is Max Dillion, AKA: Electro (played by Jamie Foxx). As we’ve seen in clips and images so far, we know we will see two sides to Electro, the pre- and post-super-power version of him, which begs the question: How will Electro get his powers in the film? It you subscribe to the Daily Bugle then you’ll already know the answer, for the rest of you the potential spoiler filled reveal is below. (more…)
It’s common for actors to be recast in popular movies, be it when the actor chooses not to return for a sequel or when they’re not suited for the role. In the case of actress Shailene Woodley, cast as the new Mary Jane Watson in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, her role was cut after all her scenes were shot. A rare occurrence in multi-million dollar movies and something that hasn’t really sat well with some of Spidey’s fans.
In a recent interview with Crave Online the director opened up, explaining his decision to cut Woodley from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Simply put, she got in the way of the Gwen and Peter relationship, but for further explanation here’s Webb’s response from the interview:
It wasn’t [cut]… The character was just teased. It was a very minor inflection, and I felt it was important to really focus on Peter and Gwen’s storyline. It was hard, because I love Shai. I think she’s such a brilliant actor and such a lovely, wonderful warm person. That was hard, and having her presence in a movie is great, but I thought it was important to focus on Peter and Gwen. I’m excited to see Spectacular Now, though.
That last part seems a bit cryptic, but we could be making something out of nothing. At least it’s nice to see Marc didn’t want to cut her part, but thought it was best in the grand scheme of the sequel, maybe even allowing her to return to the part as long as her schedule lines up with the third Spidey film. With all the characters Marc has planned it’s easy to why the director has to make decision in the name of the plot and the sequel’s running time.
Speaking of characters, other actors involved in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have either inadvertently confirmed or accidentally let slip who they’re going to be in the Sony Pictures sequel. Actor Colm Feore was revealed to be playing Adrian Toombes, aka The Vulture and Felicity Jones is also rumored to be playing The Black Cat, both of which Webb has denied. Sitting down with Total Film the director admitted he has been “intentionally concealing” these secrets,
Hmmm… Well, how do I answer that? How about this? Anything you expect, you’ll be surprised. To be totally honest, I intentionally conceal these things because I want people to be engaged and surprised when they see the film and experience it for the first time. It’s not like Harry Potter or Twilight necessarily where you know the stories.
And we are constructing them from elements of the comics obviously, from the canon, and we pay homage and are very protective of certain elements of the canon, but we want people to experience it for the first time in the theatre and I think that’s an experience that it often robbed from the audience, so you’ll forgive me being coy.
So, it sounds like Webb could be going with a mixture of known elements, and with over 50 years of history to work with there’s plenty to pull from. That leaves plenty of surprises ahead audiences. What do you think though? Will it be something worth while, using a blend of characters to pull of something original or should they stick to what everyone already knows?
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters everywhere May 2nd, 2014.
A couple of weeks ago Felicity Joneshinted that she might be playing the Black Cat, aka Felicia Hardy in Marc Webb‘s latest web-slinging installment, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This time around View London talked with Jones about her role in Drake Doremus’ film Breathe In, which also stars Guy Pearce.
The questions quickly moved on to her role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
Can you tell us anything about The Amazing Spider-Man 2?
Felicity Jones: Spider-Man is completely different from anything I’ve experienced before, and a real departure from what I’ve done before, which I’ve really enjoyed doing; something on a completely different scale, and with it being a cartoon, it was really good fun actually. It was really fascinating to see how a film is made in that way, which is so foreign to what I’ve done before.
Have you wrapped on it now?
Felicity Jones: Yeah.
Can you tell us who you’re playing?
Felicity Jones: It’s all quite shrouded in secrecy, but I’m the Goblin’s girlfriend – I’m in a relationship with him, and his accomplice. I’m on the dark side.
What’s your character’s name, or can’t you say?
Felicity Jones: I can’t say actually. It’s all in the vaults of Marvel. I love all that secrecy, I think it’s great. It builds anticipation, there’s too much transparency in everything these days.
The Green Goblin’s (Harry Osborn played by Dane DeHann) dark-side girlfriend? That confirms the Green Goblin will be making an appearance or at least be set up in the movie. It could also mean a couple of things about Jones’ role.
It could confirm she is playing the Black Cat, who often blurs the line between good and bad in the comics and also competes for Peter Parker’s (Andrew Garfield) affections with Mary Jane Watson. This could just be some kind of smoke screen to hide the fact that she’s just Mary Jane, who unknowingly helps Osborn do nefarious things, and that’s how she ends up meeting Peter.
Officially the role that Felicity Jones is playing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is unknown, but many believe that she will be playing Felicia Hardy, aka the Black Cat. In a recent interview with Flicks in the City’s Jan Gilbert Jones was asked:
Are you looking forward to everyone seeing you as Black Cat?
Felicity’s bumbling answer, that is trying hard NOT to be an answer, is endearing in its simplicity. She wasn’t ready for that question, in that form, and you can see her stumble to get something out there while not confirming anything. I’m sure she’ll get better at it with practice. Although I have to say, this cat is out of the bag and won’t go back in.
Expect IMDB to update her role listing in a day or so.
We know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is full to the brim with villains – Electro (Jamie Foxx), Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), Black Cat (Felicity Jones), though that last one is more rumor than anything – but aside from a recent pic of Foxx as Electro, we haven’t seen too much of all those bad guys.
And now there’s this. It’s a video of some spy pics from the Rochester set of Amazing 2, and the video-makers think it seems to indicate the look of Paul Giamatti‘s character Rhino. Now obviously, the shot isn’t of the Rhino in costume, and it’s not even Giamatti himself, but the mask the stunt man is wearing, and the very Russian mob-style appearance with the tattoos and the jump suit, it’s easy to conclude that maybe this is what Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich might look like out of costume.
Press play on the video below and judge for yourself.
Despite what you may have heard, there are some of us that weren’t completely upset with Marc Webb’s latest Spider-Man reboot. In fact, there are quite a few folks out there looking for some news concerning the upcoming 2014 sequel. We already know that Electro (Jamie Foxx) will be the main villain and that Paul Giamatti is supposedly playing the Rhino. We also know that Mary Jane and Harry Osborn will be showing their faces. Now, there may even be some potential Black Cat casting. In addition, Webb teased a tiny taste of the changes they’ll be making to Spidey’s costume. Check it all out after the jump.
