Ferris Bueller’s Day Off


Obviously, Nerd Bastards isn’t a sports site, but we too noticed the passing of Gordie Howe last Friday. The man spent most of his career playing for the Detroit Red Wings, and that image of the red jersey emblazoned with the number 9 has another connection to pop culture beyond the man called “Mr. Hockey.” Indeed, we saw Alan Ruck walk around in the jersey for 90 minutes in the 1986 hit Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. So here’s a question: why would Cameron Frye, a teenager living in suburban Chicago, be walking around Blackhawks country wearing a Red Wings’ jersey? If you’re a child of the late eighties haven’t been watching The Goldbergs then you are missing out on some fantastic memories of times gone by, back before the Internet changed everything. This week, The Goldbergs is doing a Ferris Buehller’s Day Off episode and they’ve brought in the big gun to sit like a ripe cherry on top, Charlie Sheen. Matthew Broderick – Still a Righteous Dude?

As expected, that Matthew Broderick teaser from last week was not for some super-secret Ferris Bueller sequel, but a teaser for a Honda Civic commercial.¬†They pretty much lifted the entire movie or at least what they thought were the best bits. It’s an enjoyable little commercial, tugging at the memories of days gone by.¬†

Everybody gets older, some like Jennifer Lopez do it with style, grace, and legs that go all the way up there. Ever wonder how Ferris Bueller would have turned out? He was the coolest kid in High School, would that translate into an awesome adult? The creative team at Sidecar Comedy shook up their magic 8-Ball and the answer came up, “Not so much.”
