Filing this under “I’ll believe it when I see it” comes news that has fans of Firefly and Serenity all jacked up with hope. Joss Whedon’s short-lived but hugely beloved SciFi series, which continued with the 2005 film Serenity, has continued to hold its fandom. Finally, after years of fans clamoring for more of Joss Whedon’s space western, someone at FOX thinks it might be a good idea to see the remaining crew members of space ship Serenity return for second season/reboot of Firefly. Whaa? Is this for reals? Are fans finally going to get their wishes/dreams fulfilled? Well, yeah, but it’s all predicated on one very important condition.  (more…)

It was 14 years ago that Firefly premiered on Fox, and almost 14 years go that it was cancelled. You would never guess that if you looked around the room for the Alan Tudyk Q&A at Fan Expo Canada. Thousands of fans crammed themselves into Room 102, many of them in Kaylee coveralls or Jayne hats, all eager to hear from the man that piloted the starship Serenity for 14 episodes and one movie. Even though Tudyk has a big role in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it was predominately Firefly memories that the crowd wanted to talk about.  (more…)

Add this to the list of things that should happen, but probably won’t. There was some talk a few years ago about an animated Firefly that went nowhere. Firefly fan and animator Stephen Bryne put together this teaser on what an animated Firefly series might look like and it looks fantastic. If only Joss Whedon would write a couple of episodes, get the original cast to do some voice work, which shouldn’t be too hard considering how easy it is to do in various locations. The only issue would be scheduling. We can dream, until then, check out this nice little video and get your hopes up because anything can happen out in the black. (more…)

Yeah, you read that right. None other than Captain Kirk himself has signed on to perhaps one of the odder projects he’s been involved with, and in doing so steps into the world of crowd-funded entertainment. Along with genre favourites Morena Baccarin, Ray Wise and Bill Moseley, Malevolent is currently seeking funding for post-production with a release planned for later this year.  (more…)

The last time a Firefly was on Fox, it was the starship Serenity, and the cancellation of that insect-inspired entitled TV series is a topic that still promotes rage and depression among fans even more than a dozen years later. This Firefly though is unlikely to illicit that kind of dedication, but still, for fans of the Batman mythos and/or Gotham, this is a pretty big deal. Sort of. Yes, in entirely unshocking news, another member of the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery is coming to Gotham, and this time it’s the arson-inclined Firefly. And last night, the preview for the next episode of Gotham revealed snippets of what this version of Firefly will look like. (more…)

Break out the tissues, because most of the Firefly cast was at New York Comic Con on Saturday and hosted a panel for over 3000 fans. Can you believe it been about 13 years since Firefly went off the air? And after all this time, the show continues to pull in crowds this big who hope and pray (probably every day) that the show will find it’s way back onto the small screen or big screen. You would think that someone out there was listening. At least the cast is still listening. Not only that, but those who showed up even did so much as to verbally say yes to doing a second season.

If it’s one thing that Fox’s Gotham hasn’t been shy about, it’s taking the incarnations of characters that Batman and DC fans are familiar with and turning them on their heads a bit. It is, after all, an alternate universe story, so you can’t sit around copying every last detail from the original comic series. That would be boring, right? So it’s no surprise when we hear casting news that gender-swaps one of the DC Universe’s more recognizable villains. In this case, it’s Firefly. (more…)
