Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut.

Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at

ABOVE: The tweet from @ThatElenaGirl is pretty self explanatory and Kirkman’s expression is freakin’ hilarious! Steve Yeun, who plays Glenn on AMC’s series, is quite the talented artist, don’t you think?

Marvel has had no luck making a hit of a Punisher flick. Easy way to solve that problem, cast a chick, duh. (TDW: Geek)

An epic journey across the ocean, sets the premise for our next wonderful bit of nerdy news surrounding the most anticipated prequel to hit the big screen “The Hobbit”. This tidbit of news is part of  Ain’t it Cool News‘  weekly column on all things Tolkien, and on this week’s  adventures in New Zealand we get to see all the behind the scenes photos and some excerpted highlights of adventures on the set.

The first exciting siting  in the movie was none other than… Frodo Baggins!

“Ain’t it Cool News” reporter states:

“The crew was setting up a crane out on the narrow walkway in front of Bag End for their first shot actually in Hobbiton in over 10 years. Because of the narrow and steep path down, the crew had to bring crane parts down and assemble much of it there. It took a little while, but before too long the familiar circular green front door of Bag End cracked open and out stepped an even more familiar face.

Munching on jellied toast, Frodo Baggins sauntered out and hopped down the steps leading to the mailbox, grabbed some mail and headed back inside. What’s Frodo doing in The Hobbit? I don’t want to spoil too much, but I can say that Frodo is part of the connecting tissue between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring.”

This has to be the cutest fucking thing ever. A tiny Gandalf plushy? Look at those cute beady little offset eyes. Oh man they are peering into my soul, right now. I need to bring him home immediately. On a side note, I think in an attempt to make the Orc cute they accidentally made a Kif (of Futurama) plush. By clicking their names you too can pick up your very own snuggly version of Frodo, Gandalf, Legolas and Kif..sorry an Orc!

It’s a tale many of us nerds are familiar with from comics, films, tv and video games: the heroic orphan. Some of these kids have no memory of their parents, while some older children watch them get murdered. Some might later find new homes, while others wander the world in isolation.

Orphans in fiction are meant to reflect our own fears and differences from society at large; it’s something to “overcome.” In the cases below, the orphaned children (mostly) overcome the raw deal life has handed them and embark upon a hero’s journey. Below, check out a five fictional orphans who found their mojo and did great things.

I’ve been saying this for years. Since Final Fantasy…Soul..Asylum? Whatever that flick was called…To Shrek 1…And finally with Beowulf using the beautiful voice acting of Brendan Gleeson and Anthony Hopkins. But there will be a war. Not between North and South or Black and White…No CG vs. Human Actors. The good thing is, the video is hilarious…The sad thing is, its TOTALLY TRUE!! Look at the heroes we have! Arnold? Stallone? Bruce Willis? COME ON!!! They couldn’t find any other actors to Battle the CG?! Watch and see how it all will end. Via /Film

Ha! I actually have the epic answer to this battle. Who is the epitomy of CG?….Thats right, Gollum. And who took his ass out??? Sam and Frodo!! HUMAN ACTORS. DONE, CHECK-FUCKEN MATE!
