It’s been over ten years since Antonio Banderas donned the mask of Zorro. In that time, the world has seen all manner of financial crisis, grassroots uprisings, and evidence of a complex network of tax havens and shell corporations to hide the wealth of the wealthy. Perhaps more than ever before, the world needs the likes of Zorro, a protector of the common people against the tyranny of a corrupt establishment. Lantica Media and Sobini Films are going to deliver a Zorro for the 21st century and it appears as though it will be in the form of famed Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal.
Zorro Reborn will be a futuristic reboot of the classic tale of the masked crusader. The script has already been written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. It’ll be produced by Mark Amin, Cami Winikoff and David Higgins for Sobini Films.
Ricardo De Montreuil is currently in talks with 20th Century Fox to possibly direct this reimagination of Zorro. Nothing is official as of yet, but he is set to do a screen test with Gael Garcia Bernal, who will be starring in the flick. IMDb has it set for a 2014 release.
I’m not quite sure what I think about there being a futuristic reboot of Zorro. I don’t really understand why new story plots aren’t a thing, because I’m pretty fuckin’ tired of all of these remakes and reboots and shit.
