Green Lantern is easily one of the most anticipated movies in this summer that is just filled with sequels/prequels.
The movie is based upon a DC comics character of a human that is chosen by an intergalactic police force, the Green Lantern Corps, to protect Earth from the forces of evil. He is given a power ring, that allows him to channel the green energy of willpower, and a lantern to recharge it.
I am really, really excited for this movie, having been a Green Lantern fan for a long time. I was skeptical about it, but have slowly been turned around … even though Ryan Reynolds still looks silly with the mask on.
Warner Brothers released a little behind the scenes featurette today focusing on how important the mythology is, the evolution of the characters, etc… However, I was unable to find a working embedd code, so you will have to go on a separate website to watch it.

Secrecy is a funny thing for a movie. There is nothing wrong with keeping things close to the vest, but if you say too little, then rumors begin to fly.
Take Ridly Scott‘s upcoming movie, Prometheus. Originally designed as a prequel to his classic horror movie, Alien, it was then changed to its own film with ties to that universe. But other than that, and that it related to the infamous Space Jockey character, not much is known.
GeekTyrant got hold of someone who (apparently) works on the film, who said:
I was speaking with a guy who is working on the set of prometheus and he showed me some pictures and told me a bout the storyline. The space jockey that you see in alien who has had his chest busted open is the guy who engineers the aliens. He sends the aliens to planet that he wants to take over. The aliens kill the locals and he flys in and pillages the land of its resources. It seems as though he is responsible for the aliens creation, i’m guessing that he is some kind of super scientist.
The engineer is played by some huge guy who is 8ft tall. He appears even bigger in the space jockey scene from Alien as he is wearing a space suit. He appears to have died in a seat that looks like it is some sort of weapon control, this is in fact the navigation system that the space ship uses to open worm holes and plot its course. Perhaps the aliens revolted and, knowing that he has been impregnated, he is desperately trying to return home to have the alien extricated?
He showed me some pictures from the set. There is a huge silver bust of the engineers head, it is approximately 15m high. It appears that the engineer is sort of leader of a civilisation and there is a cult around his personality and his alien creations, this is probably due to the fact that he has mastered the technology that continues to provide the resource requirements of his home world. I also saw a picture of the actor who plays the engineer in what appeared to be some sort of cryo-chamber.
As interesting as this sounds, it is just a rumor. So, we will have to wait for official confirmation, but it certainly sounds plausible and is definitely within the established canon of the previous Alien movies. But, like all rumors, be sure to take it with a grain of salt.
What do you think?
Dinosaurs are very, very special to me. Back when I was a kid, I was obsessed with him (literally)!
I knew everything there was to know about them, visited my museum as often as I could, and annoyed the hell out of anyone who would listen by talking about them endlessly. When Steven Spielberg‘s Jurassic Park came out, I was in heaven. I saw that movie EIGHT times in the theater, and broke my VHS tape of it from over-watching.
Maybe that is why I have been worried about the distinct lack of info regarding Spielberg‘s new TV series Terra Nova. Specifically, the lack of promised dinosaurs.
But, we now have an official synopsis of the show and a brand new teaser trailer that shows the audience exactly what everyone has been worried about – the dinosaurs. While the glimpse is short, it sets my mind at ease. It looks good, moves well, and even looks menacing! I just hope they don’t over-do it … just look at Jurassic Park 3 for examples of that.
According to GeekTyrant, the show is set in the year 2149, and centers around a group of survivors trying to rebuild the human race millions of years before we even existed. The full synopsis and video teaser containing a cool looking dinosaur can be seen below the jump.
Ever wonder what is inside one of the All-Terrain Armored Transports (aka AT-ATs) which made their film debut in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back?
Ever wonder how such a big thing actually works? How it’s inner works manage to carry such immense weight (as well as Stormtroopers)?
Luckily, thanks to GeekTyrant, we have you covered. Click on the image below for a full-color and very in-depth explanation explanation of what an AT-AT is, how it works and what it was used for.
Ever since the lovely and talented Anne Hathaway was announced as Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises directed by Christopher Nolan, the Internet has been in a frenzy between those who doubt his choice, and those who are thrilled.
Personally, I believe Hathaway can do it. Firstly, she’s sexy as hell. Secondly, she has IMMENSE range as an actress, and can definitely handle the job put in front of her.
“Look out, it’s the GUARDIANS!”
Yes, that quote may be from The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, but it works perfectly here.
For those of you nerds NOT reading Green Lantern comics (seriously?), here is a low-down of who the Guardians are.
The Guardians are exactly as the name describes them, guardians of life, freedom and prosperity on their home planet of Oa. They created the Green Lantern Corps and the rings used by its members to patrol the galaxy. They do not choose the guardians, but (at least in the comics) the rings search out beings with the willpower to overcome great fear.
Here’s the synopsis of the film:
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.
Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
The art below the jump comes to us via GeekTyrant. What do you think of them?
I wish this would have been around back when I had to learn the alphabet! I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn the ABC’s with a cool Star Wars twist?
According to GeekTyrant, Brandon Pea (a graphic designer) decided to create this for the nursery at the request of his pregnant wife. I think it is safe to say that this makes him the coolest and geekiest father ever.
If you don’t know who some of the characters are, as some are from the expanded universe (animated shows, books and video games), feel free to check them out on Wikipedia. Go on, I won’t tell.
Check out below the jump for a gallery of each individual letter/character, followed by the full set. Believe me, you definitely want to check them all out.
It seems that the beloved bear, Winnie The Pooh, is coming back to a theater near you!
For the first time in 35 years, Disney is releasing a feature-length movie based on five previously unadapted stories featuring the lovable bear and his friends getting into all sorta of trouble. The film, entitled Winnie The Pooh, is set to be released on April 15, 2011 in the UK and July 15, 2011 in the US.
Disney has also released the official synopsis of the movie, some pictures located below, and a few tidbits on the voices that will appear in the film (courtesy of GeekTyrant):
Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh,” the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Well a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.” Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny. Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, “Winnie the Pooh” hits theaters July 15, 2011.
The voice cast includes Craig Ferguson, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Bud Luckey (director of the Pixar short Boundin’). There will be seven new songs from Bobby Lopez as well as the Pooh theme song performed by Zooey Deschanel.
I love Marvel. There, I said it!
There will always be a part of me that like the classic DC characters, such as Batman, Superman and Green Lantern, and one of my favorite villains is the Riddler – but I much prefer Marvel characters to DC.
Case in Point: Marvel appears to be putting together a movie based on the character of Doctor Strange! He is one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe, and while he has had his share of problems, I think this movie could be an amazing thing for such a beloved, but not widely known, character.
GeekTyrant is reporting that both Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have been hired to write the script for the film, which means the wheels of development are moving! These two have quite the list of projects that they have worked on: the new Conan film, scripted the live-action adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Sony Pictures, and a draft of Jon Favreau’s upcoming Cowboys & Aliens.
But that’s not all!
As San Diego Comic-Con starts to gear itself up, more and more details are coming out about the superhero movies we will be seeing in the next few years. One that fans, and myself are chomping at the bit for information on, is Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan.
The costume has already been revealed on the cover on Entertainment Weekly and discussed in an earlier post, but more information has recently come to light.
Caution, some of this could be considered spoilers, so watch out!
