For the past few weekends the majority of the free world appears to have made it’s way to the cinema to take in that smarmy spaceman/baby-tree/laser trash-panda epic, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still at the top of the box office and the James Gunn directed cosmic comicbook action/comedy has been universally regarded as both captivating and crowd pleasing. Well, except for one person apparently. (more…)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the hotly-anticipated sequel to 2014’s surprising smash success from Marvel Studios, has just unveiled a new concept art from Andy Park. The sequel, which is again directed by James Gunn (known also for Slither and Super), is expected to continue the story of Star-Lord and compatriots defending the galaxy-at-large from Thanos (and his minion horde). Yesterday we were treated to a Guardians of the Galaxy dance-off clip between Star-Lord and Ronan The Accuser, which was to decide the fate of the world ( …this could have worked as an alternate ending, no?). That scene was basically a set-up for Dave Batista (Drax the Destroyer) according to James Gunn. You can see how he is caught off guard as he starts to express a confused – ‘what-the-hell-is-going-on’– type grin. Not only is this a wonderful clip, but it also invites us – the viewers – to vicariously feed off of the good vibes they obviously had whilst filming the movie. The chemistry is great in the film, and this must of been one of the many elements, that when mixed together, produced a gem of a film. You can view the clip again here, …and “Dance-off” (more…)
It was inevitable after the success of Guardians of the Galaxy that we were going to be seeing a lot more of these characters as they have became culturally embedded and loved by people of all ages. One could even go as far as saying that GOTG is the Star Wars of this generation. Nobody could have predicted the massive success of a movie based on unknown characters – including a talking Raccoon and a loveable tree called Groot – and being directed by cult/indie director James Gunn, but it all came together, and it clicked with audiences worldwide. Thus, not only do we have a tonne of merchandise coming out in time for the Blu-ray release and Santa’s busiest time of year, but we also have writer/director James Gunn giving us updates on the progress of the sequel – due for release in 2017 – and now we news of an animated series and also a kid-friendly comic book series (that will tie-in with comic titles aimed at an older age group). Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took to Facebook earlier today and posted a pic of Vin Diesel next to a maquette of Groot (above), one of the films key characters. This picture confirmed Diesel’s role as the shape shifting tree creature who’s only form of speak are the words “I am Groot”. As if there was any question as to the reason Diesel be hugging it out with a humanoid tree, Gunn made some official comments and everything.
