guardians 2

It seems like a long way off, May 2017, but in production terms it’s coming up faster than you might expect. That’s why it should come as no surprise that James Gunn has assembled the Guardians already to rehearse Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Much of Marvel‘s focus this year is going to be on Doctor Strange and, much more immediately, Captain America: Civil War, but GOTG Vol. 2 will be one of the most hotly anticipated movies of 2017 after the original defied any and all expectations in 2014. For now though, these space heroes are just a company of actors hamming it up for a couple of behind the scenes shots the director has posted on Facebook. (more…)

Guardians of the Galaxy had no shortage of unusual characters including a walking tree, and a pistol-packing bitter racoon. It had more space oddities than a David Bowie tribute band and the Star Wars Cantina combined, so when ever we talk about what characters might appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the weirder the character, the better the odds they might appear. Even though we’re still not entirely sure what Guardians 2 will be about, or what new characters might join the original team in their latest adventure, we now have another hint about who they might be fighting. If true, this will literally be the biggest villain in any Marvel Studios movie so far. (more…)

According to the rumors, principal photography on the highly anticipated follow up to Guardians of the Galaxy is imminent or occurring, strangely though, there has been very little news in regards to new characters or casting even though the film itself is ready to go before the cameras. Maybe its because there aren’t going to be that many new characters with such a big returning cast, or maybe it’s because there are potential surprises that no one wants to ruin, still casting news has been pathetically dry when it comes to the next Guardians adventure. Until now… Now we have news about one new cast member, and one cast member that was never meant to be. (more…)

It’s been a rumor almost as old as the existence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the rumor that the Hulk would be going into space post-Avengers: Age of Ultron and will encounter the Guardians. This rumor has floated out there (in space) in a couple of forms, whether it’s a Planet Hulk movie where the Guardians would enter the story at some point, or whether it was Hulk leaving Earth at the end of Ultron and bumping into the Guardians somewhere in space, it was going down. Except no, no it’s not. And director James Gunn has said so again in an impromptu Twitter Q&A. (more…)

Granted, there have been a lot of concerns about Ant-Man, from the sudden departure of Edgar Wright from the production mere weeks before it was supposed to begin, to the somewhat underwhelming response to the initial trailers. All signs pointed to Ant-Man fumbling Marvel Studios‘ string of recent successes, but there was hope and faith that Marvel could pull out a win, and the response so from those that have seen Ant-Man has been, for the most part, fairly positive. Amongst the fans of the new Marvel superhero is James Gunn, he who directed the studio’s last outside the box hit, Guardians of the Galaxy. So obviously he would know, right? More than that, Gunn was very enthusiastic about where Ant-Man will end up in the annals of Marvel movie lore. (more…)

“Risky.” That’s how James Gunn‘s story treatment for the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy was described by Marvel Studios insiders “in the know.” Hardly surprising since the original Guardians was itself a gamble for Marvel, one that paid off beautifully despite initial concerns from fans and critics (oddly enough, the same concerns people now have about Ant-Man). So Gunn was given some leeway in crafting his story for Guardians 2, the script for which he’s just finished the first draft of. But expect no spoilers, or hints, or even a look at the full title on the script’s cover page, which makes us all wonder, Just how nuts is Gunn going to get with Guardians of the Galaxy 2? (more…)
