After nearly three long years of waiting, Marvel fans are finally getting what they’ve been begging for – a Wolverine solo feature that doesn’t suck. And it’s all thanks to James Mangold. With The Wolverine trailer releasing within the next month, James is deep into editing this action/adventure film. But he’s still taken a little time out to show us all one disgruntled looking Canuck.

From the editing bay, where the final cut of the currently unrated film patiently awaits, the director took to the film’s Twitter page to release a brand new still from production.

Featuring Jackman in the title role and at an unknown location (none of us read Japanese), the mutant warrior looks like he’s about clear the room with some of that signature rage. Just the way we like it. Here’s a look at the image along with a message from James:

Just what is it that has our mutant hero all worked up in The Wolverine? Did someone accidentally spill his beer? Is an enemy from his past looking to settle an old score? Perhaps some jerk foolishly insulted the great sport that is hockey? Whatever’s going on in that shot it doesn’t look like it will end too well for whoever is in Logan’s line of sight and should make for some quality family fun for the audience.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee opens in theaters everywhere July 26th, 2013.

We can now officially keep using the above poster when we reference The Wolverine as it is officially the official poster. Months ago it was leaked and I believe we had a consensus it was a pretty sweet design which is the first step towards this movie not sucking. I’m not saying it’s guaranteed or anything, but a well designed teaser poster is a baby step in the right direction.

To go along with this fancy, new, official version of the poster is the announcement shooting will begin next week! It’s been a long time coming for the kinda-sorta-sequel to Wolverine: Origins and in a new feature on The Hollywood Reporter star Hugh Jackman shares his excitement to begin and to be shooting in Australia,

I am so happy to be home, to be shooting a movie of this magnitude here at home is one of the great privileges I have had in my career. I have been working for 12 years on the Wolverine character and while the franchise will go well beyond me, it really has been the backbone of my career.

This one has certainly been the most interesting and complex of the superhero characters. I do take my career one (step) at a time and I feel like a golfer always looking for that hole in one.

The Wolverine is being directed by James Mangold and stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto. Currently the release date is set as July 26, 2013.

Are you excited for a new Wolverine flick or should they bench him for a few more years? What about the story, supposedly based off Chris Claremont and Frank Miller‘s run of Wolverine that took Logan to Japan, is it a good choice?
