It’s time for our regular Star Wars update, a segment where we take a morsel or two of stray conversation and conflate it to make semi-serious conclusions about what we think might be going down on the set of Episode VII. I know, I know, why so cynical? Fair enough. But one of our news items today’s comes from that school, and the other one comes directly from one of the new cast members. So what do these tips reveal? Well, if the one is right then there will be another well-known locale being visited by the gang in Episode VII, and in the other, the one from the cast member, it promises that this time, the fans passion for the material will be justified, and the promise of the franchise will be fulfilled once more. Deleted Scenes: A Spicier Version of Han & Leia’s Hoth Hallway Scene and Rare ‘Indiana Jones’ Footage Featuring Carrie Fisher & Barbara Streisand
A lot of new footage has begun making it’s way online since the Blu-ray versions of the entire Star Wars saga was announced. Included in this new footage is, of course, some deleted scenes or alternative takes. One of these deleted scenes in another version of Han and Leia’s snarky exchange before they evacuate Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. In the film we can tell it’s classic “oh, they secretly like each other banter,” but in this version the sexual tension literally radiates off the screen! Also, Han could have come off as a way bigger jerk, but still just as sexy.
Watch this alternative version below and let us know which you prefer.
If this wasn’t enough new Harrison Ford for one day we’ve also come upon some rare footage from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Here’s the story about this clip, apparently Steven Spielberg was planning a practical joke for Ford, and in the scene where Indiana is kidnapped by the Thuggee, Speilberg launched his surprise. In that scene, Indiana was to be whipped by a dominatrix, who also happened to be a certain famous singer. Then, the rumor has it Carrie Fisher and Irvin Kershner showed up. I don’t know, sounds like a very strange and kinky prank, Spielberg.
You can watch this unfortunately terrible quality footage of the shenanigins, but take solace in the fact this long rumored prank did actually occur. And that’s sort of fabulous.
Nerd Art Stock Pile: Lots Of Paper Art, Angry Birds Want Cake, Don’t Ice Fish On Hoth, The Gaslight Justice League, Samurai Star Wars, Doctor Doom Loves Puppies, Harry Potter Criterion Collection Box Art, Boba Fett Takes Off His Helmet, And MORE!
The Interwebz is a great place for nerdy art and the like. A lot of the time it’s fuckin’ weird shit like gay Vulcan pr0nz. But there are a lot of awesome things that we see on a daily basis and we’re lazy nerd bastards so we just round them all up once a week for your nerdgasm glory.
First off this week is some paper art by Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann, who call themselves Zim and Zou. This collection, called Back to Basics, consists of models of retro electronics that are hand made with sustainable paper. Every scrap is saved for potential later use. It’s pretty fuckin’ insane. Check out the site for more pictures, and a video detailing their process.
More after the juuuuuuuump!
Star Tours is reopening soon at both Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and we’ve learned of the dazzling locations offered. Already known were Tatooine, where you could take in a podrace, as well as the hub of the galaxy, Coruscant. Disney has announced four more locations: Naboo, Kashyyyk, Geonosis and Hoth.
There will be a surprise visit to the Death Star from time to time; apparently it’s orbiting Geonosis. In addition to the new locales, passengers will be departing from a new fancy Spaceport made just for the new Star Tours. There are 50 different adventures where your voyage could take you, so what’s stopping you from booking your Disney vacation?!
It’s been a long, hard winter and a trip to the happiest place on Earth in a galaxy far, far away sounds amazing.
Halloween often is better than those December holidays for nerds and geeks. It’s wicked fun and a source of pride to design a costume with precise measurements and structural integrity, something that will hold up all night and stand out in a sea of Balloon Boy and Slutty Nun clones. Plus, it’s the one time some of us get to pretend to be Buffy, so that’s cool too.
That’s why I feel no qualms about posting this piece of awesomeness, even though we’re a half-month past Halloween:
Your eyes are not deceiving you — that absolutely IS a furry tauntaun with a mounted Luke — and it moves via stilts! This Scott Holden guy used plaster, wire, foam and more in his masterpiece, and honestly, it looks good enough to slice open and warm yourself in.Visit cockeyed.com for his story on how he built the creature, as well as this lovely tidbit:
He literally almost had to spend the night trapped inside the tauntaun’s body!
Thanks to geekology.com for the heads-up on this find, which should be inspiration for all of us next October.
