Infinity Gauntlet

It’s a big week for Marvel Studios. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned for its third season last night, and Avengers: Age of Ultron hits store shelves on DVD and Blu-ray this Friday. That means it’s time again for another round of “Kevin Feige talks about Marvel movies.” You can almost call it, the State of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At an event at the Hero Complex Gallery in Los Angeles last night, the head of Marvel Studios and Avengers producer Jeremy Latchem, talked about the future of the franchise, and other burning questions in regards to Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and that fancy gauntlet that everyone wants the stones for. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly growing and the box office breaking hit Guardians of the Galaxy has opened the door to an entire galaxy of new characters to choose from.  If you are trying to guess which of these new characters may be recruited for a much bigger part of the MCU, James Gunn is ready to spill the beans. Well, at least a few of them. (more…)

There was so much information pouring out of SDCC14 this year that it was hard to keep up with even the big announcements let alone all the smaller sometimes much cooler things that people who attended the convention saw. In the next couple of days we’ll be picking up the pieces and bringing you some of those items that might have flown below your SDCC14 radar. First up is all those Marvel-ous props from Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. (more…)

The Internet reached peak mind-blowing fever last weekend when Josh Brolin was announced as the voice, (and facial CGI model?) of Thanos for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and would first be appearing in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy coming to theaters this summer. Now there are some details about the role, and how much Thanos will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy.

SPOILER ALERT – LAST WARNING – SPOILER ALERT

“Whomsoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor” – Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) in Marvel‘s Thor.

While what Odin said may be true, it also seems like whoever has the keys to Odin’s vault will be pretty powerful as well!

In the movie, Odin’s vault is only seen for a brief period, but holds some relics of Marvel lore. I was only able to see two when I saw this movie, and missed the rest. Luckily, The Daily Blam has a breakdown of each piece in the vault, which can be seen below.

Along with the Casket of Ancient Winters, Odin’s weapons vault contains other cosmic artifacts that include –

Confirmed:

Eternal Flame (top, left) – Mystical flame that cannot be extinguished. It was stolen from Surtur by Odin, Vili, and Ve Borson at the dawn of time so that Surtur could not light his sword and bring about Ragnarok.

Infinity Gauntlet (right) – The Infinity Gauntlet was designed to hold six of the ‘soul gems’, better known as the Infinity Gems. When used in combination their already impressive powers made the wearer nearly invincible.

Warlock’s Eye (bottom, center) – A powerful, mystical weapon used unsuccessfully against Odin, Thor and the Warriors Three during an invasion of Asgard.

Twilight Sword (not pictured) – Created by Surtur using the energy of the exploding home galaxy of the Korbinites, it was intended to set the universe afire. Later used as a power source by Loki & Morgan Le Fay.

Rumored:

Orb of Agamotto (top, left center) – A scrying crystal ball used by Doctor Strange for clairvoyance. It has been known to open gateways between dimensions

Tablet of Life & Time (top, right center) – On the tablet was a biochemical formula for a serum, the so-called Lifeline Formula, which could rejuvinate, heal and grant its user the chance to reach the full evolutionary potential of its race turning the user into an immortal near omnipotent being.

This is one of the things I love about Marvel movies, the inter-connectivity of the universe. Just a name-drop or a piece in the background makes the entire series of films seem more grounded and real. It is also a big treat for fans of the comics, such as myself, to find.

But once question remains: If all this stuff is locked away in Odin’s vault, how can Thanos get hold of the Infinity Gauntlet, or Doctor Strange get his Orb of Agamotto?
