In terms of all the controversies around Josh Trank‘s remake of Fantastic Four, this one may be the smallest. Still, it’s interesting to note that as we countdown to the August release of the latest version of Marvel’s First Family, Twentieth Century Fox is hoping to help you forget the last time they had the characters in the multiplex, the much-maligned Fantastic Four, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Now depending on your point of view, FF and ROTSS are amongst the worst comic book movies ever made, but if you want to see them now and relive the misery, it looks like you’re going to have to do the unthinkable, and rent or buy the physical DVD or Blu-ray. No, I’m afraid Black Angel is NOT a lost chapter in the Star Wars saga itself. Rather, it was a companion short and directorial debut of Star Wars art director Roger Christian shown only in select areas back in 1980 when The Empire Strikes Back first opened. It was only screened in Europe and Australia, and after disappearing without a trace, was long believed to be an urban legend by many Star Wars fans until it resurfaced in 2011.

This summer, Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers could very well be the biggest summer blockbuster of all time – if the numbers from the latest iTunes trailer are correct. In the span of 24 hours, the action adventure starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson broke the previous record of 10 million views, set during their The Avengers Super Bowl spot. The latest trailer, released only a few days ago on iTunes, Hulk-smashed it’s own record with a record breaking 13.7 million views.
We here at Nerd Bastards probably watched the trailer ourselves on loop for a day straight, but can you blame us? The trailers have been nothing short of awesome, Joss has turned the Marvel franchise into a forced to be reckoned with.
Here’s the official press release from the record breaking viewing:
Marvel Studios announced today that its new trailer for this summer’s most highly anticipated movie, “Marvel’s The Avengers,” has been viewed over 13.7 million times in the first 24 hours of its debut, setting a new record for the most viewed trailer on iTunes (http://www.apple.com/trailers) and the iTunes Trailers app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
The new trailer, unveiled Wednesday, February 29, exclusively on iTunes, gives fans an exciting look at “Marvel’s The Avengers”—an action adventure of a lifetime—based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since.
In “Marvel’s The Avengers” the world’s greatest Super Heroes assemble when Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) join S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to protect the world from the dangerous and powerful villain, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
An exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is from Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures, produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Joss Whedon from a story by Zak Penn and Joss Whedon with the screenplay by Joss Whedon.
“Marvel’s The Avengers” will be released on May 4, 2012.
Could The Avengers become one of the top 10 most viewed movies of all time? If these numbers are any indication, maybe so.

Scarlette Johansson Considered for Elena in ‘Uncharted’. Joseph Gordon Levitt in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’?
This evening I was fapping to Scarlett Johansson. A bottle of KY Jelly and some Barry White on the Itunes. It was my moment of zen. OK, maybe you didn’t need to know about my masturbation habits. What you may care to know is that director David O. Russel (The Fighter) is a fan of Scar Jo as well. So much so that she is in his thoughts for the role of Elena in upcoming project ‘Uncharted’, based of the acclaimed action-adventure video game series. Elena, an American journalist and TV personality in the game; finding the right lead for this role is a key aspect. At this early stage in the game he hasn’t given too much thought, but the idea of Scar Jo rolled in his head (Like me, he was probably fapping to her. Playing Elena was probably an after thought). In talking about The Fighter, he had this to say:
Oh I would love that too, I love Amy(referring to Amy Adams). I also love Scarlett Johansson; there’s a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we’ll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role…
So, she is in possible contention. Will it happen? Time will tell. Does she make a good choice. I’ll leave that for you to decide.
Oh, Russel further added his thoughts on the adaptation as well as the possibility of Mark Walberg and Robert De Niro starring. He said:
The game is very cinematic; there’s no question about it. That’s what I’m working on real hard and I’m writing it as we speak and I’m really excited to make it. I’d love Mark to be in it, I’d love Bob De Niro to be in it; I love the idea of growing them into a cinematic family; I think that’s a really cool idea, but… I guess you’ll have to wait until you see the script..
In other casting rumor news, we have actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in talks to join ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Being that he is chummy with Christopher Nolan, working together on ‘Inception’, it’s been assumed he would find his way into the next Batman flick. Deadline says:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros. I’m not sure what role he’ll play, but I’m told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring.
OK, this is completely ridiculous claim on my part, but I’m inclined to think he might make a brief appearance as Heath Ledgers Joker. Insane? I know. Chris Nolan would never do this. He’s spoken admittedly about never replacing Ledger. However, as the years have gone by Levitt, in my opinion has grown to be a Heath Ledger doppelganger. He’s looking and sounding like the late actor day by day. If there was anyone… ANYONE who could remotely fool us into believing a Heath Ledger Joker again it’s Levitt. Take my speculation as you may. Most likely he’ll wind up as some Gotham cop… or something. Either way, it sounds like he’ll round out the cast nicely, with Christian Bale as Batman, Micheal Cane as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucious Fox, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane.
It’s that time again, folks! To blow bubbles with your spit? Nope. To race cats down a drag strip? Wrong again. No no, it’s the question of the week! Every week we ask a question on Nerdbastardcast, the official Podcast of Nerdbastards.com. We leave it to you, our audience, to submit your answers to our question and the top 3 answers are read on the air. The hosts of the podcast will then choose the best answer and the winner will receive a prize! (Limited to availability.)
This week’s question of the week is:
Who would win in a fight; Superman or Jesus, and why?
So have at it, fellow nerds. Tell us your thoughts, we’d love to hear them.
