These are precarious times for the Marvel Movie empire. Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios boldest venture yet in live-action filmmaking arrives in theaters in just a few weeks. Then, this fall, the first in what hopefully will be a long-term collaboration between Marvel and its parent Disney to create animated Marvel films, will open in a cinema near you, Big Hero 6. New details have been revealed about who’s playing who in the film, and along with that, there’s a new trailer for the flick that shows a lot of humor and hints at some very big action. To say nothing else, it looks fantastic! (more…)

Production is finally underway for the long awaited sequel to Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller‘s Sin City
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, began filming on Monday with two actresses familiar with the genre. Jaime King is returning for the sequel, playing the sister of her character from the first movie, and Jamie Chung is playing the role Devon Aoki had in the 2005 original.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of both actresses joining the cast, which already includes returning actors like Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson. Rourke’s character, Marv, was killed in the original film, but this sequel precedes he’s “shocking” execution.
The only missing pieces we know of so far, are the major roles of Ava and Dwight. As noted in the Hollywood Reporter’s article, Angelina Jolie‘s role will now have to be recast as she is not is likely to appear and the same goes for Clive Owen. His role as the red sneakered bad body in the 2005 original will most likely be recast; seeing as how Sin City 2 we’ll see Dwight prior to the facial reconstruction we all saw in Sin City.
So, not only is production under way without a complete cast, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is set for a October 2013 release. That gives Rodriguez less then a year to shoot and edit the entire movie. That’s a tall order. Especially, when you consider the fact, that he just wrapped Machete 2 and has to oversee it’s post production.
I for one, am I little concerned the sequel won’t get the care it deserves. We’ve waited 7 years for this, and it’s feeling rushed. Not to mention the lack of returning actors. You can already tell it just won’t be the same
Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new banner for Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. opening in theaters and IMAX on March 25th. This movie just keeps looking better and better. I think this banner and the character portraits after the jump would look great in a smaller format framed together. The retro future look that this film has shown us so far is fantastic. I just hope the finished piece is greater than the fragmented parts we have seen so far.
I am hoping the fight scenes of Sucker Punch continue in Snyder’s style used in 300 and Watchmen. That slowed motion minute long shot from 300 of King Leonidas walking through his enemies, taking one out after the other. That scene sang to my nerdbastard heart. The film stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Oscar Isaac and Scott Glenn. Quite the lineup, eye candy all around.
Which of these ladies do you think will steal this movie? Which will stand out?
