‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Has Found Its Captain

The latest instalment in a series that spans more than half a century, Star Trek: Discovery is due for release at some point later this year and will be the first series in the franchise since Star Trek: Enterprise wrapped up in 2005. The new show will star Sonequa Martin-Green, known for her role as Sasha Williams in The Walking Dead, as the protagonist, Lieutenant Commander Rainsford aboard the USS Discovery. Up until now, Star Trek shows have had an ensemble cast making up the crew of each ship, but has primarily focussed on the captains as the main characters. (more…)

Star-Wars-Rebels-The-Inquisitor

When Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace came out, despite your feelings about the film, there was one thing we could all agree on: Darth Maul was awesome! Why? Because he had a double-edged lightsaber, yo! Too simplistic? Maybe, but it looks like in the new animated series Star Wars: Rebels, the creators are upping the game by giving the villainous Inquisitor not just a lightsaber, and not just a double-lightsaber, but a spinning double-lightsaber.¬†Taking bad ass to a whole new level, the blow clip introduces The Inquisitor (voiced by Jason Isaacs) and and his twirling weapon of hot death. The Star Wars animated series have been some of the best Star Wars material fans have enjoyed in years. Yeah, I’m looking at you Phantom Menace. This Fall fans will be introduced to Star Wars: Rebels, the latest Star Wars animation incarnation. One critical factor in the success of the Star Wars mythos is a good villain. Hal Jordan is getting a lot of attention lately. A few years back writer Geoff Johns resurrected the character and refueled the Green Lantern line with the popularity needed for a big, splashy, summer blockbuster of a movie. Which, if you haven’t heard, is totally happening. Green Lantern hits screens on June 17th and in a turn of brilliant marketing Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment have released an animated film about the Green Lantern Corps.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights is the 11th film in the line of DC Animated features and like, Batman: Gotham Knight before it, this is an anthology, featuring six interweaving tales from the Green Lantern Corps. A surprising but completely welcomed choice. I feared this movie would be another Jordan adventure in a tie-in or lead up to this summer’s film. Emerald Knights is really a tale about the Corps, and the different Lanterns who comprise it.
