The first John Wick movie was a bit of a surprise. Outside of The Matrix Trilogy (and various kung-fu movies he filmed since then), Keanu Reeves has not had a huge action hit. Sure, the actor picks and chooses his parts wisely, but this is what we have been missing from him. The first John Wick had an almost embarrassingly simple plot: retired assassin’s girlfriend dies, she gets him a dog, a moron kills his dog and steals his car, he gets revenge on EVERYONE. That’s pretty much the plot for every B-Action movie.
However, John Wick is magical in its execution. Besides The Raid and its sequels, there hasn’t been a mainstream film that was just perfection when it comes to execution of highly stylized violence. The film was directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, both stunt coordinators by craft, and it really showed. It’s a no-brainer that a sequel would be greenlit. Enter: John Wick: Chapter 2.
NOTE: This review does contain some descriptive spoilers.
Of all the movies to air commercials during tonight’s Super Bowl, it’s probably John Wick: Chapter 2 that will benefit the most. Why? Because the release of John Wick: Chapter 2 is less than a week away. It’s going to be a very competitive weekend at the box office with three huge studio releases including John Wick and LEGO Batman Movie, but it’s contender number three that enjoys a little humour at its expense in the John Wick Super Bowl ad. If you like things a shade darker, like Fifty Shades Darker, the makers of John Wick don’t want you to make the obvious choice this Valentine’s Day weekend. (more…)
John Wick just can’t stay out of the game, whether it’s some one pulling him back in by shooting his dog, or pestering him to do an impossible job, they just drag him back in, Hoo-Haaa! It’s a great role for Keanu Reeves and a surprise franchise for Summit Entertainment. Wick is back and doing what he does best, killing just about everyone that crosses his path. Check out the action packed new trailer below. (more…)
When John Wick first premiered, it was a pleasant surprise. Keanu Reeves showed us that he can bring the same high impact action we saw previously from The Matrix films in a film surrounding a lonely assassin coming out of retirement for revenge. Who thought a movie based on the death of a dog would be so awesome?!? After grossing almost $90 million on a $20 million budget (and quite a cult following), it’s natural that a sequel would get greenlit.
