Kermit the Frog

Well, it turns I was  not the only one who felt that the crazy overly realistic “Office/30Rock” rip-off that was the Muppets really wasn’t a good cup of tea. ABC has decided to cancel The Muppets. From the beginning, this rocky season struggled to get viewers and Muppets fans to connect with the characters.   While the premise of a Muppets workplace comedy was intriguing, it just never successfully merged that idea with the overall Muppets energy and sensibility that we’ve come to know and love. It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights! It’s time for some shameless cross-network self-promotion. The Muppets debuts later this month on ABC, and they’re trying to raise some awareness with a series of promos featuring actors from other popular ABC series because, you know, The Muppets need more brand recognition. Of course, the original Muppet Show was well known for its celebrity guest appearances, so why not take advantage of that legacy through the lens of corporate synergy? So here are the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational, corporatational, promos possible for the all new Muppet show. (more…)

Of the many projects that Hollywood currently has in its mammoth machine the one most “flying under the radar” right now to me, feels like the forthcoming Muppets TV show, set to premiere this Fall on ABC.  These classic Jim Henson characters that many of us grew up with, are getting a modern-makeover in their televised presentation. I’m not referring to their physical appearance, but rather their stylistic approach.  The show will feature a behind-the-scenes style format that could allow the writers to do some truly unique and entertaining things with this “cast.”  Now, we at home get a chance to take a full look at the pitch video that got the series green-lit!

Remembering Jim

Today is the 22nd anniversary of Jim Henson’s death. Jim is part of a short list of creative people that positively impacts the daily lives of some many children around the world, even 22 years after passing away.

The video below is a tribute to Jim Henson that will leave you sad, yet still smiling. Jim’s creative genius has gone on to affect entire generations of children, who in turn bring the magic of Jim Henson’s Muppets to their own children.

Take a minute and watch. We still miss you Jim.

Is Kermit the Frog Going to Jail?

Kermit is now a wanted frog in Germany. According to Bleeding Cool (who will hopefully never clot) the commission for regulating German television (which is also called ZAK) has found Kermit guilty of illegally plugging the release of The Muppets during an appearance on the German commercial network Pro7 during their Disney Day Event. I know, I thought it would be for not wearing pants in public too.

No word on how one hunts down or imprisons a felt puppet, but according to non-existent German officials “ve have vays”. Don’t cry for Kermit though, he’s at an advantage — many offenders break the law and go to prison to then become puppets (of the fuck variety) whereas Kermit will already be pre-puppeted, and really, if Kermit isn’t locked up how will the rest of the Muppets bust him out for the opening act of the upcoming Muppets sequel?

Happy Halloween From ‘The Muppets’

While they’ve promised we’ve seen the last of The Muppets‘ parody trailers, a fact I’m sad about, it hasn’t stopped The Muppets from being everywhere. Even wishing us a Happy Halloween!

In addition to the video, a photo of Kermit and Miss Piggy dressed as Frankenstein and the Bride of has been released,

Seeing so much of The Muppets has me aching for their return to television. I’m totally stoked for the movie, which I think looks fantastic, but The Muppet Show was fantastic television. Hey, maybe the movie will be a big enough hit The Muppet Show could return? But only if it was good. Which is probably some wishful thinking.

When Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater, they help Kermit reunite the Muppets to stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater.

In a continuation of what have been awesome teaser trailers for The Muppets movie they score again with a timely Green Lantern parody. Seriously though, there’s been a lot of green on this blog lately, go figure. This new teaser, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green,’ offers us another short glimpse at The Muppets opening November 23rd.

Not only does this trailer poke fun at Hal Jordan (always acceptable) but action movies in general, and it’s something I’d love to see continue. The people behind The Muppets have a great understanding and admiration for their property, and know how to perfectly blend self-awareness with pop culture references. Plus, it’s even funny! Win, win.

Check out the teaser below, as well as earlier trailers, ‘Green With Envy’ and ‘The Fuzzy Pack’ below the cut.

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
