Fox television has taken on the monumental task of “re-imagining” the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. While many younger people will be wondering why their fathers or mothers are ranting about the injustice of it all and the impossibility of replacing Tim Curry, Meatloaf, or any of the other fantastic performers in the original, someone in Hollywood feels they are up to the challenge. Fox has announced a two-hour spectacular to air this fall.  The subject: cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  It’s time for the world to experience the time hop again!  Although it would be surprising if the event were as scandalous as the original 1975 film (it has to be safe for family viewing, after all), there is still plenty to be excited about.  Slowly but surely, details of the casting are being revealed.  The roles of innocent Janet and her sweetheart Brad, as well as the strange Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his creation Rocky have all been cast.  As well as a brand new revelation.  Read on for more details. The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or at least the film adaptation of it, marks its 40th anniversary this year. Directed by Jim Sharman, the movie based on the London stage musical The Rocky Horror Show, is the prototypical cult film, and has been watched and re-watched, in costume and without, again and again by millions of people over the last four decades. So naturally, Fox is remaking it for TV. The new version will air sometime on Fox next year, and if you think this kind of production represents the basest kind of Hollywood cynicism, then wait till you hear who the network has cast as the mad scientist from “Transsexual, Transylvania.” (more…)
