Left 4 Dead

Fans of the The Walking Dead have been witness to some new faces and shocking conclusions this season – and we’ve only just crossed the halfway point. Seeing as how the series has diverted from the comics there are some notable differences, but one fan favorite from the comics will be making his way to AMC.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Robert Kirkman teased the introduction of this new but already well-known character, saying:

“There’s a new character added. A big deal fan favorite from the comic book is introduced into the show in this episode, so be on the lookout for that,”

Check out just who it could be after the jump.

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

ABOVE: Maybe it’s just the fishnets, but it makes me think of Black Canary dressing up as Deadpool, which is so mind-bending and universe crossing it hurts my head. This Lady Deadpool cosplay was photographed by LJinto, for more photos check out Fashionably Geek.

Brett Driver obviously has a Nerd Boner for Valve’s Left 4 Dead video game, but then who among us doesn’t? Well it seems Brett took the power of his forbidden love and turned it into this delightful Fan Film Teaser. Watch it and you’ll find yourself polishing your shotgun, day dreaming about zombie filled days and escapes just a couple of blocks away. You can make it that far, there’s only about half a million zombies out there between you and safety. Go ahead. You can do it, besides, the restart button is only a mouse click away.

The Game Station gang has put together one entertaining interactive Left 4 Dead video romp. Did you ever have those D&D interactive adventure books, the ones that, much like the video, let you make your decision and turn to that page to find out what happens next? Those were some carefree afternoons. Enjoy the video; there’s some fun gaming and movie references that just add that extra nerdy goodness to the project.

I’m ready for some more from this group. They have a good handle on the source material and how to make it funny – HAHA, and not funny – OMG that was bad. Click through the jump to get all the production details.

(article by nerdbastards contributor Sarah Moran @SarahThisIs)

Earlier this week a trailer hit the web and became a sensation. Okay, it’s not too surprising, that happens all most everyday on the internet. But this trailer is going to make you stop and think of your loved ones, and it’s not for a documentary or a plea for a social cause, it’s a zombie video game called Dead Island. Now you may be thinking, “Really? Another zombie game? I’ve played enough Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead and I’ve killed enough Nazi zombies in Call of Duty.” To which I say, you can never kill enough Nazi zombies, but I digress.

This trailer is beautiful, haunting, chilling and apparently being developed into a motion picture. That was quick. Obviously we don’t know much yet. In fact, the trailer doesn’t show any gameplay footage and it hasn’t even been confirmed if the characters or scenario portrayed will appear in the game. Dead Island is set on an island resort overrun with undead, brain eaters. You’ll use only what is available at the resort to survive, no stockpile of guns, ammo or chainsaws lying around every corner. Bleeding Cool is reporting on the movie deal,

The film’s producer is to be Sean Daniel, who has made the option for his new company, The Sean Daniel Company. He’s a credited producer on The Wolfman and The Mummy, and now he’s one step closer to the monster movie equivalent of the EGOT by picking up these zombies.

And that’s about all we know. Until more news develops on this story sit back and watch the trailer for Dead Island if you haven’t already. And then, for the hell of it, watch it in reverse, ’cause why not?

You have not obtained true pop culture status until an idiom (a statement that has meaning beyond the words themselves) has been named based on you. And it is about time that video games got their due!

Some of the ones listed below are pure gold, and I think it is up to us to make them as popular as we can – I for one will try to use at least one a day in conversation.

Steam Makes Its Way To The Mac

valve-steamAfter so many teases that weren’t subtle, Valve (the lovely people that brought us Left 4 Dead, Half-Life, and more), has confirmed officially that Steam, their awesome digital distribution platform, will be available to the Mac next month. Valve will be treating the Mac 100x better than PS3 users as they will release a function called Steam Play, where PC users who bought games before can also play those exact game on their Mac for free. Not to mention, multi-player will be cross platform as Mac players can go head to head with PC users and maybe the age old question can be answered, who’s better, Mac or PC users. The folks at Valve had this to say:

“We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows.”

I’m happy for Mac fans to finally get some great gaming available to them… of course this just leaves me high and dry since I only have a PS3 and for some damn reason Valve hates Sony’s machine. I swear, if for some odd reason Valve supports Nintendo Wii before the PS3, I am going to go Gordan Freeman on some ones ass.
