Legendary Pictures

These are strange days for the movie business; less so for the movies because making movies has always been strange, but it’s the business side of things that’s particularly bizarre. To wit, let’s talk about the case of Spectral, a movie that was supposed to hit theatres everywhere back in August, but pulled back from release by Legendary Pictures after the utter failure of Warcraft at the North American box office. It’s not entirely outside the norm for a studio to pull a movie last minute, nor is it outside the norm for it be shelved and not immediately re-scheduled. What is weird though, is moving from a release on 2,000 screens to Netflix, but that’s where Spectral is heading next.  (more…)

Legendary Pursuing Pokemon Live-Action Movie?

With the Pokemon Go app bringing re-igniting everyone’s inner poke-trainers, it’s not surprising that talk of a movie would come up. Nothing is finalized, but rumor has it that Legendary Pictures may be pursuing the live-action video game adaption. Taking a look at the numbers Pokemon Go has generated, it’s a no-brainer as to why Legendary would make such a move. Nintendo, which only has 1/3 stake in the Pokemon company, had a stock market spike of 25% thanks to the app, adding $9 billion in market cap. (more…)

Captain America: Civil War looks to be the film that has officially kicked off the 2016 summer movie season. Sequels, just like the previously mentioned Marvel flick, will dominate the next few months. People are anticipating such follow-ups as X-Men: Apocalypse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, The Conjuring 2, Now You See Me 2, Finding Dory, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Purge: Election Year, Ghostbusters, Star Trek Beyond, Ice Age: Collision Course, and Jason Bourne. But the film coming out this June has been a long time coming for gamers… Warcraft(more…)

Originally the sequel was scheduled for a 2017 release date with production said to start in 2015. But Pacific Rim 2  was eventually pushed back by  Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures and production was delayed with no confirmation on when they’d start.

Looking back on the summer of 2014, Godzilla was indeed one of the success stories, but it’s debatable as to whether it was the big hit the studio wanted it to be. At the same time, there’s also a question as to whether or not the style and tone brought to the production by director Gareth Edwards outweighed the weaker story and character elements, and whether or not those two desperate aspects might be balanced for the sequel. Well, what ever may come in the franchise, we know one thing for certain: the date that Godzilla 2 will be released. And when will that be? Read on. (more…)

Today at SDCC, Gareth Edwards announced that Godzilla 2 is indeed coming. What’s more, the movie will feature a plethora of the big lizard’s classic enemies. Read on for some serious name dropping.
