Evangeline Lilly plays a character never created by J.R.R. Tolkien in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Considering that the elf warrior Tauriel has created by Peter Jackson and his collaborators from scratch, it would make sense that the actress asked to play her would have some kind of input into making her character. As it turned out, Lilly had only one caveat for playing Tauriel, and it was a promise that eventually had to be broke when the Hobbit trilogy went into reshoots last year. So what was the promise, and how was it broke? (more…)
Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has a new still making the rounds on the Internet today and it features everyone’s favorite elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and the new female elf created by Jackson for the movie, Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly). They’re all decked out in traveling clothes and weapons, and we can be sure they’ll be showing off those incredible elven martial arts skills with arrows flying left and right.
What do you think? There was some fan uproar about the addition of new characters to the story, but we’ll only really know how it turns out after the movie hits theaters and we get a look at Tauriel and her part in the saga.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theater screens December 13th.
Reaction videos are such a thing nowadays. I guess firsthand reactions are no longer good enough so we must record others’ reactions, and sometimes, even reactions to those reactions. Which leads to reaction videos of reactions to reaction videos! Causing a never ending cycle of reactions until no one is acting anymore, but only reacting and all life on Earth ceases to be proactive and we die!
Sorry, that whole reaction scenario got away from me. What we’ve got here is one of those ‘reacting to a reaction video’ video, but not simply any ‘reacting to a reaction video’ video, this one stars a rather famous trio of elves. Uploaded by some guy, Peter Jackson somebody, is this video of Evangeline Lilly, Orlando Bloom, and Lee Pace watching a video of two fans enjoying the hell out of the latest The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug teaser trailer.
It’s delightful seeing not only two girls more excited for Smaug than I’ve been for almost anything in my life, but seeing these so often stern elves letting loose and giggling like idiots.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens this December 13th. Hopefully sooner than later Jackson will deign to upload a production diary instead of a video of giddy elves.
As you may or may not know, the Elf warrior Legolas (played by Orlando Bloom in the Lord of the Rings films) does not appear in The Hobbit. However, director Peter Jackson did a bit of a re-write of the classic J. R. R. Tolkien book to wedged the character into the story for his upcoming Hobbit trilogy. Still, fans have wondered just how Legolas will make his appearance in the films, and when, but now it seems that LEGO of all things may have spoiled the moment.

Nerdy girls everywhere felt a slight tremble in the force today as Peter Jackson updated his Facebook page letting the world know that Orlando Bloom is officially on board to reprise his role as Legolas in The Hobbit. Everyone expected him to come back, but now everyone can breath a sigh of relief with the confirmation. Jackson had this to say,
Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I’m excited to announce today that we’ll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older—and he doesn’t! I guess that’s why he makes such a wonderful elf.
