leiji matsumoto

There’s a CGI based remake of Space Pirate Captain Harlock, based on Leiji Matsumoto’s original 1977-79 manga. The trailer opens with a quote from James Cameron:

“This unprecedented event is already legendary.”

Umm . . . really James? It sounds like that quote got translated back and forth a few times. For all the glorious manga style CGI space fighting action we get to see, listening to that music in the background is DISTRACTING as hell. “Be the Light” by ONE OK ROCK is not the music this Harlock fan was looking for.

Space Pirate Captain Harlcok is scheduled to open in Japan on Sept. 7th. We might get a look because the London-based film sales company GFM Films is on record about working on an international dub. How long that will take is still in question though. Most of us will likely just pirate a sub-titled version in the meantime.

We here at Nerd Bastards, in an effort to deliver more pretty stuff than our rivals, now present to you a new trailer.  The movie is an upcoming CG animated adaptation of Leiji Matsumoto’s Space Pirate Captain Harlock.  Give it a watch and see if you are duly impressed or not:

Well, it’s pretty as hell, that’s for sure.  This flick, which is technically a reboot of a 1978 television adaptation, follows the exploits of a space pirate who rebels against the evil empires that rule the galaxy.

Check the full movie out when it releases sometime this fall.

Thanks to BleedingCool for the heads-up.
