Wasn’t Harrison Ford great in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everyone? A legendary actor once again playing his most legendary role. But while Ford accepts praise for his portrayal of the older, but not remotely frail, Han Solo, the corporate overlords that own the rights to the character at Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company are currently looking for a younger model Han Solo to star in the second standalone Star Wars movie following Rogue One. From many, comes one, or at least in this case a dozen or so. Sources are telling one Hollywood trade that there’s now a short list for the new Han Solo, and the reason for the immediacy of casting the part may be surprising. (more…)

Not a big Spider-Man movie update but an update none the less. It appears Sony Pictures and director Marc Webb are close to picking the actor that will play Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man reboot. This past Friday, studio decision-makers viewed the screen test of actors that are supposedly in contention to play the next friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Deadline lists the actors who have tested and are actively being considered. Jamie Bell (Jumper), Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation), Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro)Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) Michael Angerano (Lords of Dogtown). and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & The Olympians). As of right now they have still yet to make a decision. Though, the studio wants to make one as soon soon as production is gearing up to start at the end of the year.
I have a feeling the new Spider-Man will be either Aaron Johnson or Logan Lerman (who keeps popping up on the rumor mill). Why? Because I think all the other actors are too weird looking to play a young Peter Parker. Oh, in case you forgot Sony is rebooting the film as teen melodrama with super villains (GAY!). Anyway, regardless of my proposed foresight I’m sure Ryan Seacrest will be letting us know who the next Spider-Man is sometime soon.
(Note: While this post was being drafted it’s been confirmed by THR that Logan Lerman had only talked, at one time with Sony, he is not a leading candidate for the role of Spiderman)
As we reported a few weeks back, director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) has been signed on to helm the upcoming Spiderman reboot. By the way, are we the only ones that noticed the coincidence of Spiderman and Marc Webbs last name? Ya, I thought not. Damn, we certainly are an oblivious bunch. Anyway, we really arn’t here to talk about him (haha Webb, it still amuses me). We are here to discuss a rumor regarding the casting of Spiderman himself. It appears Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman is in talks to play Peter Parker (A.K.A Web head, hehe) in the Spiderman reboot. Nothing has been confirmed beyond the fact that Logan has been approached by the studio. Lerman himself told Access Hollywood that he has been in talks with Sony. This is what he had to say:
“There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into. It’s one of my favorite characters ever and I’m a huge fan of the series. I’d love to have more conversations about it. I’m definitely very interested in it. It’s just, you know, conversations are starting. It’s a long process with the studio and the producers and everything. But it’s definitely a project that I’m really interested in, of course. I’d love to focus on the human element a little bit more. It’d be such a fun experience.”
Generally we don’t post such hersay like this. Who am I kidding, we do it all the time but as much as we wanted to stop contributing to the Spiderman rumor mill there is real news here. If Logan has been approached, which credible sources say he has then this atleast gives us a good idea of the type of actors they are looking at to fill the roll of Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man reboot. They are going for the much younger looking guys, the ones that actually look like they can pass for a high school student. So this potentially cancels out the rumors of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zach Efron, Jim Sturgess and so on. And how do we feel about this? I’m of course asking you the reader. What do you think of an Ultimate Spiderman like movie that puts Spiderman in highschool dealing with something worse than super villains, teen melodrama?
