Looney Tunes

If you’re talking about nerdy movies, few big name, Hollywood producers are more busy than Dan Lin. Working out of Warner Bros., Lin has been attached to the Sherlock Holmes movies, Terminator Salvation and the upcoming Gangster Squad, and he’s currently in development on the LEGO movie, Godzilla and Justice League.

While recently talking to Collider, Lin updated nerdery about two other projects, Suicide Squad based on the DC Comics team of government sanctioned heroes-turned-villains, and ACME based on the Looney Tunes brand name of borderline suicidal gizmos and supplies. From the sounds of things, there’s good news for one and not so good news for the other.

“[Suicide Squad] has a script from Justin Marks, but that is on a hold right now,” says Lin. “I think Warner Brothers wants to finish their A-list stories first and then we’ll talk about stories like Suicide Squad.”

Ugh. This is the stupid thing I hate about the way Warners is developing their DC Comics properties, if you have a good script why not just get it made rather than wait for the stars to allign on the Justice Leagueand related movies. We want good comic book films. Period. There doesn’t necessarily have to be some multi-step, multi-year plan in order to tie them all together.

Speaking of pointless plans, Lin also talked about what an ACME film would look like, and is sounds like they’ve got an interesting approach to the material.

“It is a live action movie, not an animated movie, and we’re really using the inspiration of Wile E. Coyote and ACME, a company that makes everything, as the inspiration for big, live-action family adventure movie,” explains Lin.

“We’re not going to use Looney Tunes in the ACME movie, it’s a live action movie.  What were so excited about is the lead character is sort of a Steve Jobs kind of character and because it’s ACME you can create some incredibly funny, wacky inventions that you can’t do on any other movie.  So naturally it’s just a super imaginative movie.”

That’s a shame about the Looney Tunes because I think that the world does need another good Looney News movie, but it does sound like they’ve got an interesting direction moving forward with the film.

More news on both projects as they develop.
