If you haven’t heard the news yet, J.J. Abrams (Star Trek into Darkness) is jumping back into the prime time television arena and this time he’s bringing Karl Urban along with him. Urban has been signed to star in the upcoming cop/robot-cop drama set in the near future, Human.

Human is described as:

An action-packed buddy-cop show set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved humanlike androids. Urban will take on the leading role of John Kennex, a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission that claimed the lives of nine of his fellow elite officers and left him critically injured.

*OK, this has to be said before I go any farther . . . the first thought that entered my head when I heard about this was Joey from Friends short lived role on Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E., the cop-robot drama.

*Thanks, I really had to get that out of my system, back to Abrams new show.

The pilot for Human is in pre-production and Urban joins a talented cast that includes Michael Ealy (Common Law) as Kennex’s android partner Dorian; Lili Taylor (State of Mind) as the police captain; and co-stars Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Mackenzie Crook (The Office-BBC) and Michael Irby (The Unit).

J.H. Wyman, (Fringe) is writing the script and executive producing with Abrams so we can expect some interesting and tangled plot lines. How does Abrams manage his time with everything he’s got on his plate these days? It’ll be interesting to see how much he can handle with Star Trek, Star Wars, and the myriad of other projects including Humans.

What do you think? I’m going to tune in just to check out what Abrams take on advanced androids will look like. Micheal Ealy is playing Urban’s android partner, Crook is playing Rudy Lom, the eccentric and underpaid designer of the LAPD’s robotics squad. I’m looking forward to both of their performances.

Game of Thones - Iceland

This video blog is just epic. We get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes of filming Game of Thrones in Iceland, and we also get our first look at Mackenzie Crook as Orell.  We also get little interview snippets from other cast members including Ciarán Hinds, Rose Leslie, Kit Harington, Kristofer Hivju, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss.

It’s amazing to see the lengths that good filmmakers will go to in order to get good material; how easy would it have been to just spend the money on effects rather than location?  Badass.

Check out the footage below the jump.
